Purchase my first digital Camera. I know what has taken me sooooo long? It is basicly the price of them. But I can no longer live in the stone ages. I have to retire my 35 mm (which I have to add I didnt get until after they were out about 7 years, i had a 110 for a very very long time) I realized I needed to do something when I found that I had 6 rolls of undeveloped film. It is exspensive to get them developed to these days so I havent. My mother in law took them all and got them developed and to my surprise there were pictures on them that were fro almost 2 years ago. So I am figuring if I buy a digital camera it will save me money and time. I have a photo printer and good computer so I will be able to print out my own pictures. My question is, what would be a good brand or type to buy? I really dont want to go too much over $100.00 and if I could stay under it that would be better.

$100.00 isn't going to get you much in the way of a decent digital camera. You'd end up with the digital version of a Brownie or pinhole camera. Try ebay or some other auction site and look for the mega-pixels each offering has. The larger the mega-pixels the better your images will be. Canon has the best opticals, but I ended up with an Olympus because it had the most mega-pixels and the best video features too. It's more reasonable to try and keep the camera under $500.00 to $1,000.00 -- which can be done and still give you great pictures. Good Luck! (But don't throw out your 35mm! Some photos still need the better depth and detail which (so far) digital cameras don't give.)

Welcome to this century! lol... Buying a digital camera is a very smart thing to do- saves money and time is right- Also it's great because you do not pay for the pictures that didn't turn out well- You can crop, edit and delete you pictures yourself- I upload all of my pictures to my computer and send them to Walmart to have them printed- Picture paper is very expensive-- I found it cheaper to just send them to Wal-Mart. As for the brand- I would only buy a Kodak camera- But that is just my opinion. I live near Rochester, NY and Eastman Kodak is a local company for me- Plus I worked there for years- they are also the best if you ask me- $100 is pretty low for a good digital camera- Why not go to a Best Buy store and tell them what you want to be able to do with the camera and they will help you in which one you need.

Kodak is acually the only kind of camera that I have ever owned. My mother is to thank for that LOL she said they were the best and that stuck, but alas all the Kodak digatals that I have seen are out of my price range :-( I dont think that picture paper ia all that bad, but I do get mine on my Dell account and I get a discount and I try to only get things when they have been nice enough to send me coupons LOL. But I didnt know that you can just send them to wal-mart and then do they send them in the mail or do you go to the store to pick them up?

I am not sure what you will find for under $100. I have a kodac with a 10 zoom lense. My camera takes assume pictures. The only thing I don't like about it, is that is is big. I bought it several years ago, but the pictures are assume. They have alot of smaller camera's now. You will love a digital camera. I do, beacause it allows you to take pictures and if they are no good to delete them. Also if you don't get them developed you can always look through them on your camera so you know what you have taken, not like film as you have no ideal what is on it. I take alot of pictures, I love pictures. Good luck with your purchase.

I love to take pictures too but I find that I dont take that many because of the fact that I dont know if I will be able to get them devloped or not. And there is the whole not knowing what pictures are good and what arent and I like that aspect of the digital cameras, because if you dont like the picture you just delete it and there are those times too when you are taking a picture and you take 3 of the same just to be sure that it took because there were times when the one picture that you wanted didnt take and you only tried once. LOL So i know that I will enjoy it and I hope to be able to get a better more exspensive one later, when I am back to work and have more money for luxuries. My mother in law has a disposable digital camera and it even takes good pictures and it pretty much works like a regular one but they are 40 bucks a peice and I think that there is a 40 photo limit on it. So I dont see how that saves money. I also saw at Wal-Mart a 20 dollar kidz camera where you have to plug it into the computer to see what pictures were taken but then there you can delete and stuff I think that it would be a great idea for my daughter who has been wanting a camera but I havent gotten her one becuase I dont ever get the chance to develop the film and I would hate to pay for pictures of heads chopped off and of fingers in the way.

Well what's more important? Quality or Price? I mean, when it comes to digital cameras quality wise you really want high megapixels (5.0 or up) and high quality optical zooms (6x and up) and of course good picture/print quality. But all of that is going to come at a price... and brand name matters. If cheap is more important, you still want to pay attention to the brand name. Good Brand Names, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, HP and Olympus. Without going specific and linking you to stuff since I don't know where you're planning to buy it from... just looking at Bestbuy.com for instance, the cheapest still pretty good quality digital camera is ranging from 149.99 - 199.99. I mean, the ones for $129.99 aren't THAT bad, but it would be better to get the little more expensive ones. Oh and just because the camera looks cool doesn't necessarily mean it'd be a good buy! I mean, My Digital camera is a piece of crap, BUT when I bought it 7 years ago it was a high quality and $500 dollars. Digi Cams barely even cost that much anymore!

Thanks for the info. I wish I could say right now it is the quality that is more inmportant but it is really the matter of what I can afford, unless I wait and save this money that I have now and see if I can add more later but that is so much more easier said then done. If I dont just use the money I do have now and get one now then it will probualy get spent on something else LOL and it probualy wont be something for me. LOL

If you are looking for a starter camera that will let you grow in photography I would suggest the Canon Powershot series. I have a Canon A530, cost about $125 to $150, and like it very much. It is a great little camera and I would recommend it to any newcomer. It is very easy to use and to learn.

I know last year around Christmas time, Kodak Easyshares cost around $100. That is a perfectly good digital camera (my mom has one). If you haven't bought one yet, wait for the Christmas sales in November and you should definitely be able to get a digital camera for around $100. I have a Fuji and I love it.
