Donating Plasma

There is a plasma center in my area and I try to donate twice a week. I average about $230 a month if I donate all the days I am scheduled in a month. It takes about an hour and a half each time I go. The first visit though normally takes a few hours. This is a great way to make money with relatively no effort, and to top it off, you're saving lives.

Do the same rules that apply for donating blood apply for donating plasma? I've never been able to donate blood because of those rules...most of them relating to being out of the country and going to specific locations. There was also one rule that I sort of remember about being in a specific region of the world, for any period of time, between like 1996-2001 or something that you could never donate blood. I've been back in the US for over a year now without leaving the country so I think I'd be eligible, but who knows.

You would have to call the center because the rules vary from place to place but they do normally have rules about when you could have been in europe, or africa, had piercings, tattoos, etc.

Wow, just from your response I probably won't be able to do it, ha. I have piercings, tattoo's, been to both Africa and Europe...I think it was the timing I was in Europe that makes it so I can't donate but I will check into it. Thanks!

I have tattoos and piercings also, but since mine are older its okay. At the center I donate at its a year after getting a tattoo or piercing, but some its only 3 or 6 months with a certificate of steraliztion. And honestly I don't get the whole europe thing, there is mad cow in the us. and they hold your plasma for YEARS before doing anything with it so they can ensure that there is nothing wrong with it. I'm sure they would rather be safe than sorry though and thats probably why all the regulations.
