Do Door To Door SalesPeople Interrupt Your Dinner?

Do companies really think consumers will be inclined to purchase, or sign up for their products when they interrupt things like family meals by telephoning, or knockin gon your door at 6pm? Obviously they are aware that most people would have either just got home from work, would be eating dinner, or having dinner at this time... Personally I find it a HUGE turn off for that company. It happened to me last night, I had just sat down to dinner with my partner and my son when the doorbell rang. The saleswoman just would not take NO for an answer no matter how politely I said it, and had positioned herself in front of my door so that I could not close it. She kept getting closer and closer to me, and I was thinking "Back off lady, give me some personal space..." How often does this happen to you? Do you feel the same as I do- that you are less inclined to be pressured when you are annoyed at being interrupted? Are puchy salespeople a turn off for you too? I do feel for the woman though. Obviously she is working on a commission basis, but I really think that she needs to work on her sales tactics, as being aggressive, invasive and annoying is not likely to sway someone in your favour. What do you think? What would be a good sales approach for door to door sales people?

Telemarketers interrupt not only my meals, but my life, and I am quite curt with them as a consequence. Joe Bloggs may just be doing his job, so I don't curse or insult the telemarketer , but I will make it clear that I don't have time for them. In my view corporations already rule our lives and control the government. They cause wars and make us feel inferior if we do not have the latest clothes, flashiest cars or up-to-date technology. When they get your ex-directory phone number and call you when you sit down to eat with your husband and kids, I say enough is enough.

I've yet to have that but I probably would explain that I can't talk right now. Pushy salespeople I wouldn't like so much. I'd rather not have that happen. If it actually did, I probably would say that I'm eating right now and don't want to be bothered and it's just wrong. I'd rather not be bugged but I understand why, they have to make a living like everyone else. I think a good sales approach would have to do more so with being polite and if you're busy and then ask when is a good time to talk, then explain it and go from there. Whether or not it does happen is another story to be honest.

Just so that you know. If you ever use the words "I can't talk right now" you are inviting them to call you back. You must tell them not to call you again. By law they must not call you again or come to your door. Remember it is your home. Btw, in the state of Florida, you have to right to defend yourself. Florida really dose not have a problem with door to door sales people.

Hey megs, Personally when door to door sales ppl come around I don't stand w/ my door open i ask who it is then I open my door & step out for safety reasons.I let them give me the sell say no let them give me the rebuttal then say no again & go back inside.I do the same for telemarketers also-my field of work is very similar to telemarketing even though I don't sell anything so I know how the game goes & they are just doing the job the way they were instructed to. +'s |:)

I have a bad experience with them especially as they always seem to come at the worst possible moment. And what is worst is that I try to reject their offer in the nicest possible way, but some people don't seem to get and hence keep trying to persuade me to buy or sign up to their offer. What is worst is that at times, they are offering something that I have already had or am already signed up to, like telephone service and such and before I can say anything once opening the door, they starting their mouths off. But I agree though, some people are really nice. But unfortunately that is not many. Most disturbing as well as rude which in turn is there lost in a way as it makes me less interested due to their behaviour.

I've never had a door to door salesman come to my house, ever. The only thing that ever interrupts us is the next door neighbor always orders out and for some reason it's always being delivered to us. So we have to go out and point to the right house.

Well you could do what my late father did. He had to older ladys knock on the door one night. He answered the door in nothing but his underware and his sholder holster. "You must be cop?" one lady asked. "No. I am not a cop" my father replied. "Sorry to trouble you" she answered back. You have never seen someone take off from the door so fast. You know that company never sent anyone to his door again. Infact, come to think of it, he never hand another sales person knock at the door. This might help with most of these calls. First thing to do is get the name of the company, number they called from, if posible the name of the person you are speaking with. If it is not un-lawful in your state, record the call. If you have caller id that is the best. Next, most phone companys allow you to block callers that do not show name and numbers on caller ID. Set your phone service to block them. Last, say the following statment. "As per federl law, this is a request for you to remove my number of XXX-XXX-XXXX from your calling list. Any more phone calls from your phone number, company will be met with a fine of no less the $5,000 per call. Once more, this is a request for you to remove my number XXX-XXX-XXXX from your calling list." If they do call back get the name of the company, the person you spoke with. You can now file a case to sue the company for $5,000. Best of all I tell every company that calls my house that this call may be recorded. The will put this on the record at the company and may never call you again as they think you are recording the call and they do not want to give you any amo that you can use in court. I hope this helps.
