aside from the creators and writers, NO ONE KNOWS.
But one thing's for sure. IT's not Robin, neither is it Victoria, or the hooker named Tracy.
According to the creators, the 'mother' cannot be someone that Ted has met.
although at first i was really hoping it was Robin..or Victoria...but never the Hooker..hehe
Who do you think the mother is?
I'm just really puzzled.

I just hope it is not one of these cases where the show gets cancelled and they don't have a chance to introduce the mother. Already one of the kids has moved on, the girl played by Lyndsy Fonseca is going to be on Desparate Housewives. So they can't have some kind of show that involves the kids other than than the set lead they sometimes use of them on the couch.

it's ok for them to venture into other projects. especially the kids since their appearance is so minimal.
but with fingers crossed, i hope they don't get cancelled (w/c is actually not possible at the moment..or the near future). aside from DH, lindsy will also appear in Heroes.

I happen to think that the mother might be either Robins sister.. Or a really close friend of Robins for their kids to be calling her Aunt Robin

I'm sure we won't know until the end - Hopefully the show doesn't get cancelled before they explain it all. However, why is it that Robin's called "your Aunt Robin". Is that a clue to who she is or just an old fashioned way for the kids to call one of their dad's friends? Actually now that I think of it, I've never really paid attention to how he addresses Lily - does he call her Aunt Lily to the kids? I'm sorry, I've just realized that I probably asked more questions then answered...

i don't think they'll get cancelled 'coz it's doin' pretty good. In the first episode, Older Ted refered to Robin as Aunt Robin to his kids, in the succeeding episode, he avoided using the label Aunt on Robin but he uses it on Lily. And yes, it is a clue that she is not the mother.

I thought it wasn't Robin, but after the Thanksgiving episode I'm not sure anymore. Here's why. Because Ted said, "these are the 4 people I care about most in the world, it's Lilly, Marshall, Barney, and ROBIN." Not his wife.

I'm pretty sure you'll probably never know who the mother is until the end of the run of "how I met your mother" you'll probably learn "How he met their mother" on the season finale and you'll probably learn who the mother is then. You can't really have a show where you have the ending twist in the first episode or anything because then how can you continue the show? Same with movies. You can't end it in the beginning or you won't have a movie.
