how do you consider perl compared to other programming languages

I prefer using PHP or ASP in scripting instead of using PERL. I have kinda grown up with this programming languages. Also this time, not much have used PERL in development, though there are some that do. Also I doubt if it supports back-end databases. I dunno, its just out of curiosity since I never used it at all in development.

I think all kind of languages are only tools, you use perl to process text while it is so easy to do that, but you need to use matlab to draw some plot you want and use c++ to operate the bottom api while needed.

Perl seems somehow old fashioned really, but I guess it has its uses. I have never really learned Perl properly, only enough to mess around with some Perl forum scripts, but it's easy enough to use effectively.
