I'm thinking of writing a few novels based on a fictional character titled 'Hariette Potter'. I would appreciate any feedback or opinions on the subject

It sounds like a cute idea, but if you're really serious about it, I have a feeling there would be serious copyright issues with J.K. Rowlings and the publishers of the Harry Potter series. Though, if you're just going to do it for fun, or for family and friends, then by all means. Let me know how it turns out. =)

Is that a female version of harry potter? I won't recommend writing it, such writing is not legal. You could go to jail, if you pursue this novel. I would say that you have to be creative when writing fictional novel. Copying a writing is against the law. Think of something else.

You would have to change the name, since the name Harry Potter is copyrighted. You could get sued, and not be able to publish a word, or lose all money you did make to someone else.

My nephew is writing his own novel, similar to HP. He has 'borrowed' some ideas but as put his own spin on it. If a little bitty 11 year old can do it, you should too. Do yourself a favor, change the names, go along a different line unless you want to end up in court and trust me JKR can afford better lawyers.

Definitely keep it a private, fun thing. As the others said, the name would raise serious copyright issues. There's not a publisher in the world who would touch them.
