I am really interested and went for a comsultation today. it seems promising but I can't help but feel like I am getting my hopes up. I am a good people person and pretty well spoken. My biggest worry is building up clients and a downline. I like most of the products I have tried. It is only $100 to start.

I was considering doing this too, but not sure. I am so bad at throwing parties, but if I could sell from a website or do fairs, I would be good at it. It would make it easier to take care of my son that way too, without being obligated to do parties. So far the products that I have tried, I like as well and being a consultant you get 50% off, which is a plus!

Mary Kay offers you a website. I had one, but it didn't benefit me much. You may do better. You can offer samples on the website and it has virtual makeovers.

Thanks for letting me know. I do a pretty good bit of craft fairs in the winter and spring, so I kinda thought I could incorporate the Mary Kay into it, if I did it. That is neat that you can offer samples and do virtual makeovers on the website, I might have to find a Mary Kay website so I can see what it looks like. Thanks!

My friend and I sell it and have been for a little over a year. We do it as a partnership. The thing is, the lady we signed up under is one of those that expects you to hound people and call up everyone you know, and we're not like that at all. It did take us a while to get a stategy that really works for us, but now that we have it's doing great. We were very skepical too. It all seemed like too much to remember and I am NOT good at calling people and being up in front of people. What we do now is have huge parties every three months, it happened to fall when the new collections coem out. We have these big open house parties and let people try whatever samples they want and we let them do the facials and all that. It is much more fun and profitable that way for us. I'm sure the people I signed up under don't care for it, but it's what works for us and our customers appreciate that we don't nag for orders. You'll find what works for you.:) If you have any questions or just want to talk MK, PM me. I'm always glad to talk to other consultants.

Thank you so much. The lady who I would be under seems really easy going and not about pressure at all. She said making money is up there on why someone would want to sell Mary Kay but it is really about making people feel and look beautiful. I have a few friend who really like Mary Kay who I am sure would buy from me but I also was thinking a quaterly "party". They will also let me use their company room to host shows and other things. She even said that she will help with at least my first party so that I can learn everything before I am on my own, which from the way she talks is never. She has only been doing it 3 years and has a car. Not that I am in it for a car. I just need ot bring in some extra income and I wear make up anyway.

I wouldn't be able to hound people either. I'm the type that I can take "NO" for an answer, so I probably wouldn't be a good sales woman. LOL I don't have problems calling people, but once I hear no, or hear any kinda of negative remarks, I step back. It would be nice doing it with a friend though.

My friend and I have set up her basement to be our MK party headquarters.:P People like that because they don't have to worry about getting their house clean to have a party.

I am a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant here in the Philippines and I am only doing it part time now, I must admit that the reason why I signed up is for the discount that I can get because I am really using mary kay products... I plan to do it full time soon and what strategy of selling will suit me best!...

My advise would be if you do not have a large circle of friends and family don't do it. When you initially start off I think most everyone does well. It is after the intial purchase from friends/family that things get a little more complicated. You need to expand out your customer list using various methods. I sold Avon years ago only because they offered a catalog and everyone knew what it was. Because the books cost money and I didn't want to waste them I would telemarket people and ask them if they would like a book. I would drop it off on their mailbox and follow-up with a phone call 10 days later. I developed a large customer base but then caller ID came in, which I hated, and I got sick of doing it and so I gave my base to a friend. This is the method I used but with Mary Kay I would not have a clue other than to throw parties.

I kind of don't agree with that. Because my director came here from Colorado and she didn't know anyone. She signed up here two weeks after she got here and in 10 months she made Director. That is with NOT knowing a single person out here besides her husband. There is this other director I personally know and she made Director in THREE months. It's basically depends on you and how much effort you put into your business. If you are TRUELY dedicated and WANT to make this work, then it will, but if you have doubts and don't try, it won't. It's one of those you get what you put in it, type businesses. The methods I have used with Mary Kay is promote my business. I do facials which is just plain skin care, since I am NOT good with another's face and makeup. lol. But everywhere I go, I put business cards. I promote on the internet. Send letters and flyers to local businesses. You can do fishbowls, where you put like a fishbowl in businesses that attract a lot of women and have a contest going on. It's really neat. I have a LIST of ideas if anyone needs any.

I signed up twice and both times I just gave up on it. I'm just no a sales person. I couldn't see myself approaching people in the street that I don't know and talking to them about Mary Kay. I also don't know too many people I could sell to and those I did know already were selling the products themselves. The challenges they put you up against to meet a certain quota for your Sales Direction was overwhelming and pushy. Yes people have become successful with this line of work, but realize the many effort and the time consume and the stress put into selling the product to make a deadline or goal. selling Mary Kay just wasn't for me, it's just no for everyone.

My mom sells Mary Kay and she's doing really well with it. She hasn't done any facials yet, but she still makes sales like crazy! You can just be an indepent consultant if you want to, and still do a good job. Just keep putting yourself out there and make customers that know the product, because they'll be the ones who will always come back.
