What is the most disgusting food you have ever eaten?

Once at a fish taverna on the island of Aegina, a Greek friend suggested that my husband and I try a sea urchin. He told us it was an aphrodisiac and a delicacy. He said it was enjoyable. I'm adventurous about food and the husband will eat almost anything. So we decided to give it a try. Our sea urchins arrived in shot glasses lined with olive oil. The idea was to eat in one swallow and avoid chewing, to down it is you would a shot of whiskey. I should have realised that there was a reason for this. I took the plunge and I have to say that both taste and texture were absolutely repulsive. Roughly the colour of internal organs, the urchin tasted like pure salt and had a texture like snot. I shuddered and stifled a retch, reaching for my wine to wash it down with, and trying not to make it too obvious that I was grossed out for fear of offending our friend. Thankfully the rest of the meal was absolutely delicious.
