IM...I don't why, but I've never been a big fan of telephones (yes, even cells).

Definitely instant messaging. I hate talking on the phone. I used to have a job where I had to talk on the phone all day. So I prefer emails, instant messaging, myspace, etc.

YM is too versatile and easy as well as for free!
That is the catch
Though when you are out, or sometimes your pc might not be avbl then ofcourse telephone is to the rescue

Well now i would have to say a IM because you can make pc to pc calls on them just like a phone. So i can message somebody and talk to them that way if i have a microphone.

Personally it depends on who I'm keeping in touch with. For me it's cheaper to keep in touch with all my friend overseas through IM, however if I'm talking to my mom, brother or friends that are here in the USA, I like to make that call. These days it's just as cheap to call nationwide. My phone bill is less than $40/month and I can call as much as I want anywhere in US or Canada. It works for me. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I prefer to send mom a quick IM as well or make a quick phone call overseas just to hear that persons voice. Just depends...

Well well well... lets take each on its merit, Telephone is accessible when u are away from netwaork connection and keep ur connected to the world... specially when u are on the ove this is the tool that keeps you connected. IM, is a nice way to talk to one person or multiple peopke at the same time VIA internet connectivity... Usiing I is convinient as you can contnue to work side by side when u are doing something and still be able to chat with people... It is nice and a lot cheaper way to connect to the world. Both have their demerits as well, Clining on to phone can become a addiction and can be harmful especially at the young age... Where as IM has no control over with whom u are talkng for how long.... When the work for which I need to get in touch with the concerned person is important I prefer a phone...

I have never been a great fan of instant messaging, and have even removed Windows Messenger from my computer which was installed by default.
I use my mobile to communicate live and email if I am sending information to someone who is likely to be indisposed (At work or in bed).
To be fair, if I had friends or relatives living abroad, which would naturally make telephoning expensive, then I would probably reconsider and use instant messaging.
