The Lurah Pak Kasim loves his son fiercely. But deep in his heart he doubts whether the young man loves him equally as well. The Lurah is always afraid that his son might find him too old fashioned and conservative. He sees how most of the young folk now think and act so differently.

I think it should be arranged like this:
The Lurah Pak Kasim sees how most of the young folk now think and act so differently. He is always afraid that his son might find him too old fashioned and conservative. The lurah loves his son fiercely but deep in his heart he doubts whether the young man loves him equally as well.

"equally as well" doesnt quite sound right to me, for whatever reason.
