I would go for a Toshiba every time. When I bought my first laptop eight years ago, my dad asked the computer guy at his office what brand to buy. He said that Toshiba was the most robust and reliable for a notebook. So I bought a Toshiba Satellite and eight years later it is still in working order. My sister bought the same model a year after mine. Hers is still working too and has not even had to have any parts replaced! The only other tip I have is to buy as much memory as you can afford. It is really worth it in the long term.

I'm corrently using HP dv2114. My experience and my friends' tells that the laptop of HP makes a comparatively great amount of heat. There are two key performances may we consider about when purchasing a notbook: heat and battery, for they are what separate the notebook from a desktop computer. So you mey visit some famous and trustable IT website to see what they recommend. There are always some specific evaluations of the computer's performance that you can take as a reference.

I am very happy with my toshiba lap top. I was very happy with my dell as well. I would go to a good store and take a look. I would try them a little bit to see which one feels best. Some I just know right away that are not for me. For instance I do not like the mouse pad, or how the screen works. people are different, so I would definitely try them before buying.

I think you'll find most new computers - laptop or PC now come standard with vista as the operating system anyway so you wont need to find one that it will run on coz it will come with it - IF you buy a new one. I am currently on a ASUS & it's an awesome laptop! It runs really quick & smooth, it has quite a lot of memory & it just an all round great machine. I would definitely recommend it. You're probably better off just going to a computer store & playing around with a few, get a feel for the keys & set up, find one that is comfortable for you to use! Good luck!

I just recently bought a HP dv9237cl at Walmart for $798. It is 1G but you can upgrade to 2G. It has Vista on it and so far I haven't had any problem at all. Very happy with it.
