I remember when I lived in Canada a few yrs ago I had a 3 week vacation and so I came home and did the usual things round the home like my laundry and opening up the windows to let fresh air into the house, mowing the lawns and just generally hanging out with my stereo blasting, when I decided to grab a few things like my wallet, passport, camera, some film and a sleeping bag just in case,I put a small back pack together with an extra pair of jeans, socks, cds, rain wear, and some smellies, (so I smelt nice lol) and then I pulled out my bike, a 1987 Heritage Softtail made by Harley Davidson, one of the best bikes out there back then,I closed up the house and told my neighbour I was hitting the road for a couple of days, and then I took off from Grand Praire Alberta heading places unknown, knowing that I had to be home in 3 weeks time to go back to work and thinking I'd just ride for a day or two and then turn around and come back home.
3 weeks later I arrived home and my neighbour said to me "Some ride" I replied it was a spur of the moment thing...
I ended up riding down to Calgary and then on over to BC and then I hit the states, along the way I ended up buying a tent and another pair of jeans, and mostly just bought gas and food and when I did stop I'd camp out or find a motel.
How far did I go? Ended up in the Florida Keys for all of 2 days then turned round and headed home via Georgia, texas, and states east, came into Canada via Ontario and rode back home on the trans canadian highway, what a ride,Over 5000 miles in 3 weeks,I seen the most amazing limo,it was a hummer and bloody long too(think that was in vegas) met some cool people along the way, got some nice photo's and even met a few good women along the way, drunk a few beers here and there and had to tell everyone I was from New Zealand which was not part of Alaska or part of the UK and there was no bridge to Sydney from Auckland. When I was asked what I was doing in some really small hick towns I said I was just taking a ride, noone could understand me when I said I'd left Nthern Alberta on a spur of the moment thing, as I was just going for a short ride, lol
Ever done anything like that? Done something on the spur of the moment? or taken 3 weeks to go some place that should have taken only a few days? I'd like to hear what you have to say?

vacations without a destination are the best of all! If the girls and I are to take a vacation, that is what we do. We just pack up some essentials and sleeping gear (just and case) and just go. We have met some amazing people and had some very fun times. Planning a vacation, booking a motel, and clockwatching all take away from the fun and adventure.

Never thought about it that way, but now with a family of 4 kids and my wife, and having dogs and a cat we don't do that, but I'm surprising my wife by sending her to austrailia to see her sister inlaw in 2 mths time so that will be a blast for her and 2 of the kids as the older ones cant get of school and also they have been to Oz so its the younger ones turn and anyway someones got to feed the dogs and that dang cat.

well I don't know about that lol as I have a bit of pain in my legs as I burnt them recently and now I can't fly for awhile,as the skin grafts are not all taking so I have to get dressing every 4 days so its a bit of a hold on the family as they have seen me on my morphine and the pain I'm going through, So its the least I can do for them as its not nice to have the pain I'm having.. but thanks
