First off let me tell you my mom, daughter and myself went to Niagara Falls last week- We went on Sunday and came back on Tuesday night- It was alot of fun- For the most part-
Has anyone ever been on the Maid on the Mist? It is the boat on the Canadian side of the Falls that takes you into the horsehsoe falls-
This was the first thing we did on Sunday- It was the one that we couldn't wait to do- I don't ever remember going on it before- my mom said she took my brother and I several times as kids-
Anyways- we got our tickets and waited in line - It was in the 90's that day- they give you these garbage bags type of rain coats- Oh who needs this I think- they only added to the heat-
So we get on the boat- its a double decker and of course my daughter wants to go on top- (lucky me).. It's an old boat- we were one of the first people on- All started well- We got beautiful pictures from the boat- How much closer can you get to the falls without going over-
My daughter and my mom loved it- As soon as they started the boat up- my stomach turned- lol.. I hung over the rail for the most part of the trip until we started to move- People kept looking at me: (
Once we got moving it was great- we laughed - enjoyed the scenery- loved the mist spray- it was so hot out- and admired the Falls-
then they stopped the boat in the middle of the Horsehoes Falls- OMG-- I thought I was done there- My stomach turned again- so many waves! an old boat- I even thought of jumping over- LOL...
Anyways once we got going again- I loved it- It was enjoyable for the most part- and got some gorgeous pics- I'll post one and then a new one with each response-
Anyone else go on this?? Explain your experience-- How about any other type of boat like this..
thanks for letting me share my experience-
this picture will be my daughter and my mom on the boat- And they say you don't get too wet! LOL

We have been to Niagara Falls twice. We ventured out on the Maid of the Mist at both our visits. We loved it. Each time we get different photos. My favorites were when rainbows appeared.

I have only been to Niagra Falls once in my life . But I was too young to remember anything. We stayed on the US side so I doubt that we did anything special while we were there. I can't wait to see more pictures of your trip.

I have never been there. I have to stop by next time on my way to NY. I always travel by car and it sounds like good stop. Sorry to hear about your stomach problem.
Hugs!

Yes, we took our kids a couple of years back. I look at the pictures and they have grown up so quickly. We were on the Canadian side of the falls and I didn't feel any queasiness at all (and I'm the first person to get queasy). It was lots of fun. You can also walk on the wall behind the falls but we didn't do that. We stayed the night and enjoyed seeing the falls lit up at night.

I have been on the Maid of the Mist, a number of times, last time I went with a first-timer. We had the one day to do it..and it rained. We went anyhow. We figured we were going to get wet no matter what.
There were maybe 6 other people on the boat and you know they crowded us whereever we stood. I stepped back a foot and stepped on someone.
We still had a bunch of fun, the falls is really impressive to those of you who have not gone on one of these rides, I must recommend them.
2 Hours later the sun was sunshining.

I friend of mine recently went to Niagara Falls and shortly after I saw a documentary on TV about it --it's absolutely awesome how much water goes over it every minute. This TV documentary also included all the people that tried to go over the falls in a barrel. BAD IDEA, lol. She said the Canadian side is the most scenic.

sadly, no, our timing has always been off on our trips to niagra falls - the last time I was there (my husband did tdy duty there frequently and he took me with him once or twice) I fell and twisted my ankle real bad so was laid up in the hotel room..what a bummer. the previous time we missed the season start by a few days.

Kris, I haven't been on the Maid of the Mist in years! Since I was a child. I have always wanted to take my children there since we are so close to the falls, but we haven't been. Now that I read this, I think that we may have to take a road trip! The only concern is I think that they need passports now and we don't have them for the kids as of yet.
I am glad to hear that you had such a fun time....yeah, mom and daughter don't look wet~ lol.

Hi sunshine,
I know we Canadians don't yet need passports to cross the border into the US when travelling by car (only by air) so I don't imagine it would be much different for Americans travelling into Canada. You just need ID for your children.

I'm so happy that everyone that has gone has had such a great time.
My boyfriend and I are flying to Southern Ontario in September for my friend's wedding, and since her and her fiance are working during the week, we thought we might travel down to Niagara to see the sights and spend a night in a hotel there. I DEFINITELY plan on riding the Maid of the Mist.
