Is God MALE or FEMALE?

We generally refer to God as HE. I talk to girls and women, they all refer to God as HE. I wonder why is that? Should GOD be referred as such? Or is it just a result of the male dominance in the society for thousands of years. But I see no females complaining about the issue. Please help clarify my doubts. Thank you.

Well given the history of all religions as a whole, men created them, do you really think they'd put a woman in charge? I can't think of a single one with a dominant female head, a lot of side players though.

Are you in a stating that a woman can never be the head of any religious sect? Do you believe historical facts are that we read are to be blindly accepted? Keeping history aside, would your opinion change?

No, not at all. I am merely looking at the history and trying to find one that has a head deity figure who is female. China, Egypt, Rome, Greek, Celtic, Wiccan (tricky that one, is Mother Earth a concept or an entity?), none of these have a female chief of gods. Now, if we consider who created the gods in these cases, who would have supported and generally benefitted from them, we see that it is a pretty big male club. I can think of no reason that a woman cannot be the head of a major religion other than the internal conflicts of some religions. My initial post refers to deities only.

The Jewish Religion was the first religion to refer to God as a male. Took a course in world religions at a Christian supported college.
