What do you think about private schools?

I went to a private high school and hated it. I never want to place my child in a private school. The only good thing is the better education and that's even debateable. Would you put your child in a private school?

I don't know much about private schools only from what friends have said or from what I have read. I don't think I could afford to either. I've been brought up in public schools all my life and really didn't have any issues with them. I think everyone is different though and some may well think they are better than public ones.

I guess it also depends on where you live. Some areas the state doesn't provide the best funding for the public school system so the only option is private schools. I think we just need to better fun our public schools so people aren't forced to put their child in an expensive, often unaffordable, private school.

Mine are grown, but I never would have done it. I had friends who went to church based schools, and they hated it. I feel like the parent is the person most responsible for educating the kids, regardless of the schools. My son's gifted teacher found that to be an unusual idea. I thought it was important for my children to go to their neighborhood schools, as that was where they lived their lives. My daughter went to a private, Christian college, by choice, but she was old enough to choose by that time.

I went to private school from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. My parents even vaguely wanted to send me to a private college, but the price was too high for them to do that. I don't have kids yet, so I'm still a little bit ambivalent about where I would want to send them to school. I know that had we stayed in Illinois, I probably would have wanted to send my kids to private school, because the public school system in the part of the state where we lived was pretty sad. I have friends who went to the local high schools and didn't even know basic English grammar, because it was never taught to them. When it comes time for me to pick a school for any kids that I eventually have, I think it's going to mostly be a matter of whether the school will teach them what they need to know, regardless of whether it is public or private. Money may also enter the equation, though, since private schools are expensive.

I think it's different in each country. I went to private school when I was in Indonesia. And in there private school, a lot better than public school. But now I live in United States since I got married. Public school really good here.I love it. I don't think I would put my daughter in public school.
