Safe amount of running per week?

I've been running about 3 weeks now and I run about 30 minutes five times a week.
How many times a week is an okay amount, as I've heard you shouldn't run every day? Any runners-how much do you run a day/week?

I'm currently training for my second marathon, and although I'm not an expert, there are a few things I can pass along that might help. Before I go spouting off advice, it's important for me to know what kind of shape you were in before you started running and what your goals are. But to answer your question about running every day - no, you shouldn't, you body needs time to recover, especially if you start running for longer periods of time. I hope this helps.

Sounds like you have the right approach. If you want to pick a day to run a little longer I would plan your days off before and after the longer run. I hope you enjoy running. It keeps me sane!

I run cross country and I have to say running everyday will not harm you at all just no longer than an hour to two hours and always have water yes your body does need a little time to recover but only a day a week Ive ran for 6 years in the same manner and I have never had any problems with running daily

I run every day, and I have been for about 5 years. Nothing bad has happened to me, but I suppose if you don't have the heart you shouldn't. I run alot, little periods of running spread out across the day.
