This happened to me today--I had realized that gee, since it's Sunday, I really didn't have to get up too early, and decided to sleep a little extra on purpose....but then when I woke up I just couldn't help feeling a bit guilty...dumb I know...but I did. I guess that rummaging in my mind, that if I hadn't overslept, I could've gotten more done today.
Have you ever purposely oversleep, then felt a bit guilty about it?

My mom, a lark, married my dad, an owl. She got 1 lark - my bro - one owl - my sister & me. I'm the only person that can out "stay awake" my sister & still get out of bed & be aware in the morning - not that I like it.
I discovered in college that I really didn't feel anything until I'd been awake for at least an hour or, more often, a few hours. So, if I got out of bed & felt ROTTEN, then I probably needed to go back to be - or to the infirmary more likely.
I really rather like those first few relatively pain few hours.

I can't recall a time I have felt guilty for sleeping in. Though I think mostly that's because the times that I have slept in I have really needed the extra sleep. Since I really miss out on a lot of sleep through out the week, and my body just needs a day to catch up to itself once again.

What I find funny at times though...sometimes when I sleep a little longer than I'm accustomed to, I actually feel more tired....is that weird or is that weird??

That happens to me to when I have really over slept. Sometimes getting to much sleep will leave a person feeling as if they didn't get any sleep at all. It is really weird how that works out sometimes.

I've just finished my 7th 12 hour shift, and I'm going to sleep in tomorrow, and can't wait. Although, if I sleep too late, I do feel guilty because I feel I should be doing something more productive.

I'd only feel guilty if it caused me to miss something that I've commited tod oing with someone else. That has probably happened to me, although I don't remember a specific thing right now. I probably did that and missed going to church with my mother.
If I don't have a commitment to someone else, they I don't feel guilty. I love sleeping in.
If you overslept it was because you neede the rest. There is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself.
That's important. Chores and errands will always be there. No matter how hard you try to get caught up, something will always be there that needs to get done.

I'll say there's always something to be done...the way I am I could really use 60 hours in a day to get all I'd LIKED to get done...LOL

Every time I oversleep on purpose I get that same guilty feeling LOL.
Don't know why really.
I guess because of the same reasons you mentioned.
Admittedly though I feel more guilty about the time I spend on the internet though LOL. I know that I could be doing more practical things but I love being on here chatting away with all the wonderful peeps :)

To be honest I don't really spend a whole lot of time here. I'm just on a lot between here, myspace, and my new hang-out. Or on IM - lately.

Yeah... I have always felt guilty if I overslept on purpose. At the time when I was sleeping it felt as if, never mind, I deserve to get more sleep because I have been working so hard during the weekdays, so what's wrong with being lazy during weekends? But yeah, after that I would feel guilty because of the same reason as yours. There are so many things to do yet I am still finding ways to relax. Oh my...

I love to sleep in- I don’t feel guilty on the weekends at all when I sleep in- I don’t consider it oversleeping unless my alarm clock is set- I do however hit the snooze way too times on the weekdays and then have to rush myself and my daughter around in the morning- to make it to work on time – then I feel guilty- because I get gruff and it’s only my fault- not my daughters- So I set my alarm even earlier and then I don’t oversleep- and I still get to hit the snooze! : )

I never oversleep...with me it's the opposite. I wake in the middle of the night...wide awake and make a coffee and get on-line. I know I won't be interrupted until Pickles wakes up at around sun-up. I nod off when I try to watch tv though.

Yes, and yes! I tell myself I'm making up for those nights I don't sleep well. I don't do it unless our daughter is here to fix breakfast for my husband, but this past weekend I slept in until 11:00!

Can't say I have done that cause if I am sleeping then it is because I am tired and need the sleep. I always sleep in on weekends because I can't during the week. I usually only get 4 to 6 hours of sleep during the week, so weekends are sleep days for me.

I realize that maybe if I oversleep it means I just plain need the extra sleep...but will still feel guilty about it

Yes It happened to me and I learned something about that.
Every morning I woke up at 9am (coz I slept late) I usually go to the market to buy and preapre food for lunch coz my daughters will go to the school.
One time I enjoy my stay infront of the computer and I sleep very late almost 4am. And when I woke up It is almost 11am and no time for me to go to the market and prepare foo for lunch. So I must order in a fast restuarant to for the lunch and I feel guilty about it coz my budget for the whole week is broken.

oh yes, and also on the weekends. nobody does the housework but I, so I have to wake up the same time as on weekdays if not nothing is done and my husband will complain. now and then I do, mostly after stressful weekdays, but then I wake up and work until late at night just so it's done and he can't blame me.

I never feel guilty about oversleeping, pyewacket, because I'm an insomniac by nature. I can go a couple of days without sleep until my body just wears down. Usually I am so grateful to finally get some sleep that I don't care how long I sleep. Every once in awhile I have to reset my internal clock because it's hard being a nighttime person living in a daytime world. I just did that over the weekend. I hate burning the candle at both ends.

Oh yes, almost every Sunday. Then I get up and whine because I wasted so much of my day. and have so much work to do. I took off work, today, so I could catch up on some stuff here, and I haven't done much of anything, so I feel horrible about that, and I'm feeling even more horrible because I have to go to work tomorrow. That makes me so sad! boo hoo

Yeah, I have tried doing this. I felt so sleepy and lazy that I told myself I'm just going to sleep for around 2-3hours but then decided to sleep all-the-way. Well in the end, I was guilty, I could have done more if I didn't sleep at all.
Such a waste of time.
