Do you have a problem with dogs licking people's faces?

I'm starting this discussion because my fiance is totally sickened when he sees my dog licking my face. It's not like he lilcks my whole face for 10 minutes and puts slobber everywhere, just a few 'kisses' to say hello. He knows to stop when I say 'that's enough' and I don't let him lick my lips. So do you let your dog give you puppy kisses or do you not?

I have a four year old Mini fox terrier. We got her when she was 13 months old. She obsessively licked people's faces then, & still does now.
I have tried everything to stop her from licking our face. A gentle tap on her nose, constant use of the word "no" , and even blowing gently on her face.
It just doesn't stop. I am not particvularly concerned about germs, but it is basicvly unpleasant to have a dog, that you would like to let on your lap, constantly want to lick your face.
So, I can't offer you any suggestions.
I am going to view your other responses, to see if someone has the solution.

I find it very gross. I know it is a sign of affection and a sign of submission but I have seen what and where my dogs mouth/tongue has been and the thought he will lick me, my husband and worst of all my son, the thought just makes me ill! My dog eats anything he finds in the trash, he eats the cats poop, he eats his own poop and then if he throws up, he'll he that too. And it's not as if he'll go and brush his teeth before he comes inside after eating all that.
So after all that, you really think i'd let him near my face, my husbands face or my son's face with that tongue?!

my sentiments exactly..not to mention that they will also eat their own vomit. or other dogs vomit.
the original poster says "its not a facefull of slobber" (or something close lol) but it doesnt take a face FULL of slobber to get those germs in your mouth!
dog eats crap, dog gives you a small lick on the cheek or chin saying hello..you wipe your hand over your face to get the wet spot off..then a bit later you touch food, rub your eye, or-for one of a the hundreds of reasons..you touch your lips..then eventually you LICK your lips...presto! dog feces germs IN YOUR MOUTH!!
very disgusting.

I'm not really a big fan of dogs in general, so I definitely don't like it when they try to lick my face. My fiance's dad and his SO have six dogs between the two of them, and going to their house is always an interesting exercise in how many times I'm going to be licked or jumped on. Of course, my fiance runs around in the yard and plays with them, since two of the dogs have been part of the family for quite a while. He doesn't mind the dogs licking him nearly as much as I do.

I have two dogs. A chihuauha and a yellow lab puppy. I doesn't bother me when they lick my face. It's not like they bathe my face or anything but you know, just a "hey good morning! I haven't seen you all night!(even though I sleep right next to you)" I'm not sure how I would feel about someone else's dog licking my face but you know how it's different with your own. And hey, if you don't like puppy breath, your not a real dog lover!

I do let my dogs lick my chin sometimes. My older dog understand everything, so if I say give me chin kiss, she will lick my chin. I can say neck, she will lick my neck...I don't know how, but she can recognize so many sentences.
I don't let my dogs to kiss my lips.

I do think it's gross but I understand it. I try my best to keep my doggies slobber off me but she loves going for the mouth too. She's not satisfied with just licking...nope. I couldn't tell you the number of times she's caught my hubbys mouth open and gave him a good frenchy LOL. So I try to keep that from happening altogether.
I guess it's really just all that slobber that grosses me out. And in my case my dog trying to french me LOL.

It has been proven that dog's tongues are cleaner than humans. Of course, I don't want either one licking my mouth. But I don't mind puppy kisses on my nose, or in my ear, which is where one of my puppies loves to show affection.

I,m not sure how it would be possible that a dogs tongue is cleaner than a humans, given the disgusting oral habits that dogs engage in..
However...it is a moot point, as humans are not in the habit of rushing up to people & licking their faces, so the hygiene of their tongues is neither here nor there...

But people french kiss all the time. More germs are swapped by that than a dog lick. I saw the experiment they did on a human's tongue and a dog's tongue. They had scientists and were all into showing the germs under the microscope. To me it doesn't matter. Who cares if Joe Schmo lets their dog lick their face? It's not my business.

I don't mind being licked on my legs or hands, but I can't stand being licked on the face. I don't allow my dogs to do it at all. Actually, none of the 4 of them are really interested in licking. One likes to lick my legs when i get out of the shower, or sometimes lick my feet if they happen to be near where he is laying. But really, my dogs don't lick, and I would have trained them to stop if that was a habit they had when they were younger.

I have two dogs, one black and white and the other black. They are both miniature poodles. I love them very much indeed. They are friendly dogs that like to lick peoples hands. I try to stop them doing this but they want to lick my baby's tiny hands. Secret, my largest dog, tries to get close to my face. He wants to lick my lips, no way! I like to cuddle my dogs and kiss their fur.

Nope I have no problem with dogs licking peoples faces in fact I think its very cute when a dog licks my face or my hand it shows he likes me and it feels funny I always try to get a dog to lick me for some reason but if I had a dog and it licked other people and they didnt like it then I wouldnt let him because I wouldnt want them to get upset at the dogey.

Ha ha. I've never actually had licking type dogs and I'm not a big fan of the whole licking ordeal, but I think a little kisses from dogs are perfectly acceptable. I have a cat so obviously, not a licker...though some cats are. Mine only licks himself. But if he wanted to lick me, i'd still let him, so long as it's been a few minutes since he'd licked himself :)

I was never licked by dogs. In fact I never touched a dog in my life. If a dog wanted to lick me, I think I would run away as fast as I could.

I have to be honest and agree with your man. This is not only unsanitary, but gross. He probably does not want to come behind a dog and kiss you. You have to decide which one is more important to you, the dog or your man.
I am not saying that you should get rid of the dog, but he has no business anywhere near your face. How would you feel about a dog licking on your man's face. Sounds like the spreading of a whole lot of germs.
