I am the cool Aunt. I am the one who goes and takes them every other weekend and we do all the movies, theme parks and stuff. That is as long as they maintain a clean room. I am the neat freak whereas my sister is not and this is how it works best for the kids. They get to do fun things with me, if they maintain a clean room.

It's very cool that you are teaching them good habits! I wish I had had someone like that! lol I might be neater than I am now! As it is, the nieces or nephews can't really spend time in my room because there is too much clutter...they don't mind it, but it's not very conducive to any kind of fun activity...! lol

Unfortunately because of the distance I don't get to see my nieces and nephews that often, but when I do see them, they think I'm cool. My Aunt Nancy was always cool, she still is...and I always promised myself that if I ever became an aunt, I would be cool like my Aunt Nancy.

I don't take them out a lot...because of time constraints but I do try to make our times together as much fun as possible! I like to think I am one of the coolest if not *the* coolest! There was a time when they would rush to greet me when I got home from work! I thought that was pretty cool. lol

yeah, it feels great when these kids look up to you and at the same time treat you as one of their closest friend.

I think im a little of both when it comes to my niece i have taken her to experience many of her first in her life as i have also had to discipline/scold her as well, i am always fun first but if need be i have no problem laying down the law!

I'd like to think I'm the cool Aunt, but don't we all ;)
Although my niece and nephew live about 2 hours away from me, I make up for it by calling them often. Also, for special occasions I send them packages in the mail. There is nothing my nephew likes more than seeing something in the mail addressed to him! (he's 5). For instance, he is beginning kindergarden this year and so I sent him a 'new to school' care package in the mail. It had books about the first day of kindergarden, school supplies, a spidey lunch box with matching ice pack and water bottle, etc.
I also go out of my way to get them special gifts for their birthdays and holidays. In the slew of storebought generic blah toys they get, they always get something from me that is either handmade by me, handmade by someone else whom ive purchased it from, customized (with their name, favorite colors, etc), or something I've special ordered online.
They both also have quilts that I made them when they were born. Both of them still sleep with the quilts and for a while my nephew wouldn't go on a car trip without his :)
