My grandparents loves to keep old coins. I was segregating our antique collections i see old coins and plenty of them in my grandmother's box. I was asking her if she thinks it has value but she doesnt know. So i thought of asking my fellow mylot friends here if they still have value. These are coins having the year 1930 to 1970. Have you kept coins that are these old? What do you think about it? I was thinking of keeping some of them since there are plenty of it. And the rest i was thinking of creating a new ornament for the house or just keep them too? I'm not sure yet. Do share your thoughts?

I have a collection of old coins and the new ones and even old and new bills. I started collecting old coins when I was in high school and I value them. There are coins which are used in the early 1900's. Some of them were already used as projects in school. I have helped my cousins and nephews with my collections. We also put old coins in the main foundation post of a newly built house (old superstition).

I believe that the coins that are worth the most are the ones that have not been circulated, but are kept in some kind of casing and appear to be new. I believe that the nicer they look, the more value they have. I am sure that they are worth something, but the longer you keep them, the more valuable they become. These are usually passed down from generation to generation and become family treasures. I think the whole point of saving them is for a time of need and not just to spend them up all at once.

As with any collection, I think they have value to the collector or to certain people who are interested in that item.

well some coins do and some do not or they have little value (maybe $1 or $2. before you make them into an ornament (thus ruining their value) either check out ebay and compare your coins there or take them to a reputable coin dealer - most will tell you what they are worth. look in your phone book to find one near you.

i know that old coins are sometimes very rare, and collectors will pay good money. i once went into a shop that sold coins and some of the rare pennies were worth more than 100 dollars. but if they were your grandfathers then they are probably more valuable to you

Yes old coins to keep their value. I have several coins from the late 1800's.. Those hard to find unless a dealer has them. I do like to collect old coins. I don't feel coins from 1970's are old or have any value yet. As they are only 30 some years old. The ones from 1930 would hold more value....Coin collectors are the ones that pay more for older coins.

I have a fair collection of old coins of various countries. I even have the coins those mint by the English and Dutch East India Companies during the initial times of colonialisation. Coins made of slate and one coin made of leather is also available with me. These coins help us in understanding history of mankind. I consider them as valuable treassure. My advice to you is that you should keep them and hand over to your next generation. Thank you.

Like any furniture in the house, old coins become antique, too. And these are items which are treasured most by antique collectors. These coins, same as our coins today, contain silver or gold content, and are viewed with and given a higher value. I, too, am fond of collecting old coins. Not only for the monetary value which I could get in exchange for these coins, but also I would like to give my child/ren & future grandchildren a glimpse of old things & coins as well.

No, they do not have any value at all. Can you please send your coins over to me? LOL. Of course they still have value! These are considered collector's items and these are really rare these days. If you sell these things to avid collectors of coins, they'd probably buy it for a big amount. If you are not in need of money then just keep that in your collection or as you said, as an ornament. If you are not the kind of person who fancies coin collection, a lot of people do, you can sell these things to them and save yourself some amount. We also have a coin collection here at home. I'm sure there are a lot of people who love collecting coins.
