A begger is definitely a pain in the back when you are going to an important destination. I always feel that you must not pay a penny to any of the beggers who disturbs you.
But see this fellow. Yesterday I met him on the pavement. He was laying down without uttering a word. His eyes were asking for alms. A torn cloth was in front of him with some coins in it. He was very weak and I took him to hospital at once. But he didnot survive. He died the next day for lack of nourishment and old age.

Ya, I probably give no penny to these beggers, maybe,if earned enough money,I would donate to the charity or some organzations.
The reason? I feel not comfortable rather than my sympathy overweighs.
Seldom,I met some beggers are worthy of extending my hands.

The bible says "whatever you do to the least of my brethren, it is as if you are doing that to me" and God will repay you for your good deeds.
Who knows you unknowingly help one of those sent by God.

I am sorry to hear about the incident. For myself, I am often touched when I see beggars walking on the streets, begging for money. Most of the time I would give them some coins. I could not see their sad faces. Usually I will give to mothers and children, and old beggars. For healthy male beggars, I would be a little reluctant to give. They should have worked for a living, and not just beg for mercy.

I spent some time in India about 20 years ago, and I learned that the beggars there are organized and have their own union. That seemed pretty strange to me, but there it is apparently considered to be a job like any other. But on the whole, yes, they were a nuisance, because they blocked your way, made aggresive gestures, and sometimes I just wasn't sure wether this was a mugging or what. Nowadays beggars are even back in countries like Germany, and there they are orgainzed, too.

I give if I have it, if it does not compromise my family. I try not to judge what or why they have the need to beg. Most people would not lower themselves to be begging if there were not a need of some sort. I don't have time to pause and figure out if it is a scam or a real need so if I have it , i give it and walk away feeling better about myself than if i ignored the person. Your story is very thought provoking!!

Begging is an organised business in many parts of atleast India. Some notorious syndicates work behind it and reep big money. However I am sympathetic to genuine beggers, and try to help them with a Rupee or two. I will try to avoid the fake ones.
andyvish, what you have done for the old man is really great, Not many people will take the pain to do that. I really appreciate you for that.
Thank you.

beggar.. There are quite a lot of types of beggars out there.
For one, beggars who are young (below 30), healthy, have each and every part of their body working properly, surely able to do a lot of work but they're just too lazy to work. I never pity them.
Second, beggars who are blind or deft or lose one of their arms of legs or any kind of disabilities. Still, I believe that they can do something even though they are disabled. But somehow, maybe they just don't know where to go. I still think these kind of beggars can do something more useful than begging for money.
Third, beggars that really can't do anything. Lose both legs and arms, too sick that they can't move, for instance. Similar to the second one, but beggars from this category hardly can be expected to do anything useful. I might help them, giving them some money to buy their meals, or just give them something to eat.
Overall, I'm ok with the presence of beggars, as long as they don't annoy me a lot.

Hi there. Just the other day, I had a long distant friend from my past visit me out of the blue, she started telling me about the hardships of her life and how her money does'nt cover much of her weekly costs, she also told me she hadnt eaten for 3 days, listening to this, I felt so guilty, I dont even know why I felt likt that, but later on as we ate our dinner, I said to my husband, Im going to pack a couple of bags of groceries and take them around to her house, and I did, she was greatful and thanked me for it, but then she started saying, "See I do alot of good for others, now its all coming back to me" with her saying this, I felt annoy, and said to her, I bought you some food to get you through because you came to my house and practically begged silently to me, saying that you had'nt eaten for 3 days, she didnt get it and I left, but before I left I said to her, this is the first and the last, your going to have to sort yourself out and go get a budget adviser to help you with your financial situation... With that I left, 2 days later she txt my cell phone and asked me for some money until she got paid, my husband happen to see this message and told her to quit asking for anything off us and that we helped her and we didnt have too. I feel like shes taking advantage of my kind nature... So I have'nt heard from her yet and I hope I never do... I should have never felt sorry for her in the first place...

Hello! Sorry to know about him, but what you did for him was really great, otherwise most people just don't care these days. Actually beggars are also like that only. Actually once when I went on a tour to Rajasthan, I went to a dargah there where there were some beggars sitting outside. After offering prayer when we came out, I gave money to an old lady (beggar) there & all other beggars just surrounded me & started begging like nothing. They were so many, I mean I didn't see so many beggars firs in that line. I don't know from where they came. My dad shouted on them & made way for me. Then, they started saying our curse would not leave you, etc, etc. I was really shocked at it that how they are saying about curse, I mean I never hurted them or anybody so howz their curse going to hurt me...vani^_^

This depends, i do not like all beggars... I will never be rude to them, i do not know their life story, but it really pisses me of, since i am a student and do not always have millions on me, if i do not have money and say that to the beggar and he then insults me that i am a snob and i do not know what. I do not like that. My friend once made a good deed and bought a sandwich and gave it to a beggar he threw it in her face and said that she should give him money--- that was nasty.
I guess it depends on their attitude. i often give them money, sometimes i start a conversation with them, if they are nice it really isn't the problem for me, i mean if i have money it wont kill me if i give them a few cents, but it can make their day better.
