Can the U.S. win the war in Iraq?

This is from today's New York Times: ---- quote ----- Vice President D*ck Cheney traveled to Ohio to give a vigorous defense of the administration’s Iraq policy in words almost identical to Mr. Bush’s. “For the sake of our own generation and the ones that follow, we have a clear responsibility to press on in this fight,” Mr. Cheney told the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce today. “Our goal in Iraq is victory — with a nation that can govern itself, sustain itself, and defend itself.” ---- end quote ------ Do you think it is possible that the U.S. can have "victory" in Iraq the way that Cheney describes it? If not, why do you think Cheney said what he did? (By the way, I had to edit Cheney's first name in the quote above because the myLot filter said it violated the terms of use!! Oh, boy. That's one oversensitive filter!)
