Do You Use Umbrellas on Hot Summer Days?

Do you use umbrellas when it's hot and sunny outside for shade and to keep cool? Especially, to protect from overexposure to the sun? I do because I care about my skin! If I'm out between 12 noon and 5pm (usually that's when the sun is hazardous then) and it's hot and sunny, I would take my umbrella with me. Even when I go shopping and park my car, I use my umbrella to walk to the store and back to my car. I also would use it when I walk around the city too. Some people look at me because they might think it's weird. But hey! At least, I'm underneath a shade, while they are baking and roasting under the sun! Along time ago, most women use umbrellas for shades. Now, not enough people use them because it's not the style and if they use it, maybe they would feel self conscious about it! Hats are good too, but it only covers most of your face. Whereas, umbrellas cover your face, neck, arms and hands.

I've used Umbrella's more recently, because my son's soccer games are during the heat of the day, and those who never thought of it, but saw others parents with them started bringing theirs too. When my step daughter graduated, it was at the stadium and we had to wait out in the parking lot to get in, and a lot of people had Umbrella's. My mother-in-law is taking medication where she shouldn't be in the sun, she had her little hat (which only covered her head, and didn't even shade her face), so I made sure she was covered by my Umbrella, she said she never would have thought to use an Umbrella in the sun (and she's 63, I couldn't believe she had never thought of it).

Ignore my statement about the hats. I meant that most hats cover only a portion of your face but not your whole face. I have a hat with wide rims and it doesn't even cover my whole face, It only covers my forehead to almost the end of my nose and a portion of my cheeks and it doesn't cover the bottom half of my cheeks. Also, baseball caps only cover the front of your face but not the sides of your face. Therefore, I haven't seen a perfect hat yet. I even put sunblock "just in case" but I wouldn't rely on sunblock alone. I have been told many times that I look very young for my age. I guess, shading myself and taking care of my skin has something to do with it :-) What I find disturbing the most, is that I've seen parents who go out with their infants and/or small children on hot sunny days and they don't have any protective gear on them. For example: hats, stroller shades or canopy, umbrellas, or sunglasses. Not sure if they put sunscreen on them, so can't say they have or they haven't. When we take our sun out, he has his sunglasses and hat on. He also has sunblock and has the stroller canopy over him. And if his stroller isn't present, he uses and umbrella with us. By the way, they sell baby and toddler sunglasses on the internet, for those of you who are wondering and can't find them in your local stores :-)

No, I never use a umbrella in the summer time. I love the sun, I like to feel the heat.I like the way it feels next to my body, and skin. It feels as though the sun is kissing my body. as you can see by my user name.I spend alot of time in the swimming pool, basking in the sun.It tends to relax me. I will lay on a raft in the pool and fall asleep, it is the best sleep I can get.

Ok if that suits you. Are you using sunblock at least? I use umbrellas because I want to keep myself protected to prevent getting skin cancer. I read and watched news reports of older people who didn't protect themselves from the sun when they were younger and they ended up getting skin cancer. Many of those people, looked older way beyond their years. Sun is also known to make you age fast too. Now if you go out into the sun before 12noon and after 5pm, then the sun isn't as harmful and can give you Vitamin D for your skin.
