Should girls change their surname upon marriage?

Should they? Not necessarily. I think I would unless my husband had an ugly or unpronounceable last name. A lot of times it's hard to tell someone is married since so many people choose to not change their names or wear rings these days.
I think hyphenation is silly. It's like a woman is saying she's not fully invested and could easy drop her husband (and his name). I guess for some women it's their way of staying independent, but I think it's kind of pointless.

While there is really nothing wrong with a woman keeping her last name, I like the notion of the whole family sharing a name. Sharing a name offers a sense of unity, which is the basis of marriage and family, so to me, it felt natural to take my husband's name.

It is awkward at best for the kids to have parents whose names are not the same.
