Should girls change their surname upon marriage?

Should they? Not necessarily. I think I would unless my husband had an ugly or unpronounceable last name. A lot of times it's hard to tell someone is married since so many people choose to not change their names or wear rings these days. I think hyphenation is silly. It's like a woman is saying she's not fully invested and could easy drop her husband (and his name). I guess for some women it's their way of staying independent, but I think it's kind of pointless.

While there is really nothing wrong with a woman keeping her last name, I like the notion of the whole family sharing a name. Sharing a name offers a sense of unity, which is the basis of marriage and family, so to me, it felt natural to take my husband's name.
