i found out 4 kids with head lice went to visit my ex at his place. one of the girls with the lice was telling me they were there all day and they washed her hair in the bath there and everything. now the problem is his house is a mess. you can't see the floor cause there is garbage and newspapers and clothes everywhere. you can't see the counters because of the dirty dishes and old food. and so on. so they are not clean people at all. now i assume the house has head lice all around. usually when a child has head lice you need to wash everything in the house, all the clothes, the curtains, anything it can cling to. now my daughter will be going over there in a few days and i know he won't wash a thing before she gets there. should i be this worried to send her there. we have long really thick, curly hair, and if she comes home with it and i get it too, we'll have to cut our hair. no one will be able to go through our really thick curly long hair to find the lice. what should i do

Lice don't survive very long without a host. I wouldn't be too worried about it, And as for cutting your hair, you won't need to, just use a nit comb. however, not sending her to his house for other safety and sanitary reasons is a completely different story.

thanks, i wasn't sure how long it would last in the house. anyway we have been to court about the issue of cleanliness before. it's actually his parent's house. he was told to move out or children's aid was going to go over and we would get a court order that she wasn't allowed to go there. so he did, but then after a while he moved in with a girl who later kicked him out and he moved back to his parents house. but now i think he's back with that girl but my daughter says she sleeps at nana's house still every weekend. his girlfriend has always had something against my child. i think it's because he had a life before her. anyway so she won't allow her in her house so she's still sleeping in that mess. there really isn't much i can do right now. going to court is really difficult. i keep telling him about her allergies to dust and stuff and he says he cleans but then kierrah tells me it's gross there. (we were watching how clean is your house on tv and she is 4 and says that's just like daddy's house) so anyway i think i'll talk to him again and then maybe call children's aid to go take a look.

I have had to give my daughter the head lice treatment before and it is no fun. If you are shure this persons house has head lice I would not send my kid there. There is too much work involved in lice. Lice is not picky they do not care if you are clean or dirty one can turn into a dozen quickly. They are nasty little blook suckers and if there is even the slightest chance of her coming home with them keep her home. To me this would be an easy choice since I have been through this once.
