African-Americans: Light-skinned vs. Dark-skinned

What's with us people? Why do we feel the need to create subcategories within our group (dark, medium, light)? You see women who only like light-skinned guy (or vice-versa), and you see men who only like light-skinned women. I know if a man approaches me and one of the first things out of his mouth is how much he likes light-skinned women, I don't give a rip how attractive he is, I won't speak to him. Anybody who can be so foolish and petty as to divide ourselves even further is not worth the time of day. What are yalls thoughts?

hi i strongly believe that people have choices but sometime people limit themselves . cause you see a light skin woman don't mean she got all the things you are looking for in her . cause the dark woman may have all things you want and desire. what in the person heart is what matters cause surely it will come off of your limbs.

Your race is African-American. Full-stop. There is no need to further categorize when u all belong to the same race. I really wonder why those people have to do that. Anyway, u did the right thing! Regards, Adrienne http://www.e-marketinghub.com http://www.e-marketing-systems.com

AreaKool, I like what you said. Not to be preachy but the Bible plainly states that we were made in the "image" of God. ALL OF US. See, we broke stuff down and downed others and that was not right. Especially if you consider yourself a child of the most High God.

Very sad, but it is the result of the conditioning of societies, especially in the USA! Because Blacks have been deceived into believing that to be dark-skinned is a negative and some, unfortunately, have come to believe this deception as truth, they go about with very poor images of themselves. The truth, my dear, is that being light-skinned is in fact a deficiency in melanin, a substance that helps humans to favorably withstand environmental harshness. I have even come to believe that the abundance of melanin does in fact fortifies the human system - making darker shade people more likely to favorably withstand life's troubles! Therefore, be thankful to be dark-skinned! And do you know what is more laughable about this skin shade delimma? That while darker shades are being deceived into believing they are inferior, everyone else is constantly trying, very hard, to be dark-skinned! Did you notice that all models, most beauty queens and famous body builders are tanned-skinned?

White people used to openly discriminate against each other, based on ethnicity. Black Americans can't really base their feelings on ethnic backround, because so many families can't know where their ancestors were from. Human beings seem to need to think in tribal terms, perhaps being "color strict" is an expression of that drive.

Those that separate people for their skin, weather black of white are racists. Almost everyone is in some form or another a racist and have there thoughts and opinions about a race. It's how one chooses to express one's self that the problems or non-problems manifest themselves. I for one consider myself to be a nice racist that chooses not to express my thoughts on the matter out of respect for the human race.

I think the term you mean instead of "racist" is "prejudiced." Racists are more firm in their beliefs that a physical characteristic indicates a person's intelligence and superiority/inferiority. Prejudiced people have pre-set ideas and biases about/against certain things and people, but they have them out of ignorance to begin with. They may or may not change their minds. But racism is chosen.

I don't like this separation thing, be because of skin color or the way we talk.. it matters not ... if we cut ourselves ... don't we all bleed red
