Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure?

I think it is a sensory thing. We know we cant touch the stars yet it is obivous there are too many to count wo we assume that when someone tells us that there are a billion stars that it seems logical because there are a lot but when it comes to wet paint it is hard to tell if it is still wet or not and there is a chance that by the time you get to the spot that is saposed to have wet paint it may be dry so we test it to see if by chance it may have dried.
