The best part of the movie Gladiator was during the fight scene with the King when he was defenseless without his sword. He continued to fight because he was fighting to revenge what had happened to his family. His dedication to his family and the whole idea of not giving up when the odds seem against you is the best draw I can give to get someone to view the movie.

Gladiator is a concept or say value that resides in every human heart who feel that human values are above all the idealism prevailing in the world. Gladiator is movie about living a life given like an emperor may it be a duty to serve or to rule. When he was army head he lead his army like an efficient leader, for a king he was efficient servant to a country he was efficient soldier and farmer and in all a perfect manager in all situations. Gladiator just showed one thing that to be king or slave is in hands of the person itself. The King he was slave to his own pride and prejudices of wrath, lust, jealousy and all the other negative elements in the personality traits. The Gladiator was king of his duties his commitment his way to justice for all and a powerful roman empire. The irresponsible king is much dangerous than a responsible slave. Russel Crowe made this character a legend while playing it. Equally he led the character to deep inside his heart that in no scene it was felt like he was acting.
In one part when he was given to eat some food, while he was slave, by his colleagues he just put his suspect over the food being poisoned. This was the true depiction of a Human qualities embedded that is fear and that part also shows why a some man succeed why some remain as they are. Their is a slight difference between belief and unbelief. That was just clearly depicted in that scene. Well after seeing this movie their is only one idea that hums in the mind that is Human values are Love, Peace, Kindness, Piousness not the competition, filth or any other crooked ways to live on.

for me, the bestpart of the movie is it's concept that a general became much bigger when he became a slave. it's the same way of your idea of never giving up. for if we face trials in life, we become brave if we learn how to take chances. right principles are worth dying for. as they say, doing things changes things and success is more permanent w/o destroying your principles. let's live life simplier.
godspeed!

Yeah I agree with you, it's a very strong scene, really nicely done by both the director and Russel Crowe.
