These three is always part of the menu when I eat, breakfast, luch and dinner and even snacks when I am eating rice. Every food goes well with this very simple yet very essential "sawsawan"in our dialect. Eating with out the sawsawan is really meaningless and with out challenge.
Before I only use soy sauce and vinegar coz I am not really comfortable with chillies, but when I ate together with my officemates more often I have learned to eat with chillies and its something that I have apprecited and have learned to love.
What about you my friends, do you have appetizer to make your meal more meanigful?Happy mylotting!

To clarify, are we talking "appetizers" or "condiments"?
My understanding of "appetizers" are dishes that you have before a main meal. Examples in the United states are things like buffalo wings (chicken wings in a spicy tomato sauce) gyoza or pot stickers, grilled pasta stuffed with various meat and/or vegetarian ingredients ... egg rolls, potato skins, fried cheese sticks or various vegetable slices (Japanese have a parallel dish, tempura)
Condiments are things that go with a meal -- soy sauce and vinegar, for example, you put ON dishes to enhance the flavor, like ketchup (the bane of all condiments in my opinion ...)
Mustard is my favorite condiment, both Chinese when I'm eating Chinese food, or regular when I'm eating a cheese burger. I relatively recently started using malt vinegar for fish and chips.
I only use soy sauce for plain rice, or the rice at the bottom of my bowl of chirashi (rice with sashimi on top)
There are stuffed jalapeno peppers used as appetisers, but sliced they can be condiments, for nachos and (at least in my case,) hotdogs

What she really wants to say is that these condiments or flavor enhancers increases her appetite when she eats it with her favorite dishes. Let's just call it our (Filipino's) version of appetizers. (",)
By the way mine is chili peppers. I always put cayenne pepper on anything I eat if the raw chili is not available.

in the philippines i often use soy sauce, lemon and cilli pepper. sometimes i used ketchup or gravy on fried dishes. in indonesia, i often use sambal, ground chilli with garlic. really hot. it's an appetizer on most of indonesian dishes whether on meat, vegetables or noodles. =)
