If a STINKY BREATH talks to you, how would you tell to stay away?

Suppode he/she is a good friend of yours and his/her breath stinks, then, how would you tell him/her to stay away from you? It happened that one of my friend usually comes to say me morning greeting . He comes so close to me that I can even smell his breath. It is really unbearable for me to even say hi to his in reply. Then again if I mention to him, he may even get offended. The solution that poked out from my head is to simply manage to walk away.

When this happens to me, I pretend to be wanting a piece of gum or a mint myself...and reach into my purse and then offer them one too! (praying the whole time that they actually take one rather than to say , "No thank you!) Or, I will say, "you know, I've been having a terrible problem with bad morning breath, I wonder if I have a bad tooth or something." (again, hoping that it makes them more aware of their own breath!)

I suggest, you better tell this guy frankly. for all we know, you are not the only one complaining, at least if he knows, he maybe be offended but at least he can do something about it!He might be thanking you one day for it its more offensive to the guy if you would only walk away... ew! you got a problem every morning for the rest of your life! hehehe

It's not that easy, to say him frankly might even hurt him.

I wouldn't tell them to stay away. Just tell them their breath isn't fresh. Don't make a big deal out of it. Just mention it in a casual way and offer him some gum or a mint.

I always have mints in my purse etc. I would offer them a mint. My boyfriend sometimes his breath was just awful. I use to give him mints, but then I said listen if you want me to kiss you you need to do something about your breath. He now use the mouth wash more often. I work with a guy for years and every Christmas they gave him hygiene products long story short he was always upset and started giving them back. Everyone was afraid to tell him his breath smells. Finally, he went to the doctor and did have a medical problem so he got treatment and was doing fine the last time I saw him.

Ya, I also keep mints with them, they're softmints. Probably, they're good to keep your mouth fresh for quite a good period. :) I don't think mouthwash is good for health. It has chemicals in it and it's quite bad, after some period of time.

Hey. Actually I have had a friend try to talk to me with its bad breathe and luckily I carry gum on me, I told him to chew this and then tell me again... So with a laugh, and a comment that went something like, "your not shy are you" he went about chewing the gum and repeating himself, after that, I told him to keep his breathe fresh, it would've been embarrassing if it were someone else he was talking too, that they would've just walk away and left him standing there... I cant stand stinking breathe, its bloody inconsiderate, lazy and gross...

That's good, I'll tell him to get a gum next time or might as well give him one myself.

Usually I have a pack of gum with me. If someone approaches me and I notice their breath is something that could possibly even make a dog run away. I will take out my pack of gum take out a piece for myself than offer them a piece in a friendly gesture. That way they have no clue I was offended by their breath, and their breath is no something manageable to be around.

If you know that he is coming, have ready in your hand a sweet or chewing gum and offer him some, before he gets too close, tell him how nice it is...

this is a funny post.. i actually have a friend whose breath really stinks.. and i think the solution to this is to say it calmly..or in your case..since your friend comes in the morning (and i'm guessing that your breath at that time smells bad as well), try breathing in front of his nose and let him smell how your breath stink and say..'now you know how it feels'^_^ then thats the time to tell him that he needs to brush before talking to anyone..^_^

I would offer him a mint right away.....then walk away! I had a friend with body odor. I finally had to tell her I couldn't ride in a car with her because it made me sick to my stomach. She took care of the problem.

Is managing to walk away from a friend the right option? For a while it might work though being honest might offend him but telling the truth will make him solve his problem for good, besides he is your friend.
