That bible quiz was a great find. Thanks, for posting it. Some of the replies so far are interesting. They reveal a tendency of people to be able to read something in plain black and white while thinking, "That's not what they meant!"
Anyone who fancies themselves knowledgable concerning Christianity should take the quiz and especially read the answers. All the answers are supported with biblical verses, just in case you want to check for yourself.

I'm sorry that something that should be entertaining and instructing, like a quiz, is used to give a wrong impression of the Bible. I approve the purpose of the site -the defense of the constitutional separation between Church and State-, but I explicitely reject the philosophy that the end justifies the means.
Old Testament rules have to be judged according to the circunstances of their origin, 3500 years ago and the Messopotamic environment. Bur Christians are not subject to the Old Testament, they have a New Covenant.
Also Paul's comments on matrimony, etc. have to be interpreted according to Greek culture, that was totally hostile to women, so when coming to Christ, many of them exaggerated in the new benefits they achieved through Christianity, and this, Paul critizised.
Instead of hammering on Fundamentalist's wrong interpretation, why not have a look at what the Bible really says! There could be a surprise for them!

I have been struggling, off and on all day, between classes trying to frame an answer to your excellent response. I am not a Christian myself but I have no problems with the evolved Christianity you represent. I do have a problem with the fundamentalist Christians who see the Bible as the inspired word of God with every word being literally true. I have read the Bible more than once and have done my research into its origins.
I have taken a look at what the Bible really says and in part that is why I am not a Christian. I am not saying that to disparage the Bible. It just does not provide the answers that I am looking for.
I posted this, in part because I do support the ideas that this site represents and in part in hope that it might send a message to those who do take the Bible literally but have not read the more negative parts or do not understand them. Yes, I realize that most of what I am speaking of is the Old testament but there in lies the problem. I grew up in an evangelical church and later attended a Baptist church with friends. The ministers in both need to become familiar with the "New Covenant". They invaluably called us to hear the good news of Christ and then proceeded to their sermon which was drawn from the Old Testament. They seemed to like the lesson there better.
I will close with a quote from one of our founding fathers.
"Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind."

vivienna, great reply the only thing I would have to add to the total of your replies is that when paul speaks of women its also a metaphor for those who have not entered the body of christ also. Women who accepted Jesus also will be considered sons of god (John 1:12).
Chiang_Mai_boy I am a bit confused I didnt know Thomas Paine was the founding father of Thailand? As far as those who take everything to have literal meanings: there are people who arent that bright everywhere and in all religions. Including some Buddhist and atheist I know of http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1210884.aspx

Honestly I don't know much about the bible, and I am embarrasssed to admit that. My parents never took me to church when I was younger, so why would I know anything about it? I do wish I could start going to church but it would be really hard for me if I don't know anything already.

I only got 20 out of 50 right. When I looked at the answers, I can see why. The questions come from a non-christian trying to interpret a Bible to fit it his own ideas without regard for context or even having a clue what is being said. Whoever set this up only knows how to fool people by divorcing words from meaning. I guess I am suppose to learn about the Bible from someone who despises it. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

yeah. i got 34 out of 50. then looking at the explanation for most of the answers i now understand why. they are almost always taken out of context. the creator of this 'quiz' took scriptures and twisted them to say what he wanted to say. it's a bunch of bull.

Interesting, which answers are taken out of context and how does that change the meaning. You do not have to change the meaning of the verses. They say what they say, no matter how much you wish they didn't.

The answers truly reflect what the Bible says. Don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself. There is much of the Bible that our pastors would rather we did not read.

What a load of rubbish. The bible in all religions is a fairy tale. We are told the bible is the undisputed word of god. So why can we eat meat on a friday now when we couldnt a few years ago. What happend did god nip down with his tipex to change the bible.
The bible was originally created to rule the masses and keep some order to sociaty. We have the police to keep order now.
I dont know about anyone else but i dont need a book to tell me its not nice to hurt someone or kill someone and its wrong to steel and so on.

You leave me a little bit bemused and also curious. Did you take the test ore even visit the web site I linked to?
It is a bit unfair to vent on me when you do not even know what the discussion is about.
