did it.......it was on the news last night. They said the man who owned the dog was the one who beat him and tied him to a tree threw gasoline on him and set him on fire...his reason...the dog was nasty to him, his family and his other dog. They tried to save the dog unfortunately he did not make it. The man can possibly get 2 years in prison for this, they are trying to increase the prison time for animal cruelty but as it stands right now he can get up to 2 years only... I think he should have to do the same amount of time if he had done that to a human being...this really pisses me off......what do you think

Well to be honest I don't know so much about this particular case. As I get older I tend to avoid these horrible stories about animal cruelty, whether they are in our media here, or on myLot. They just upset me and stress me too much. However, my personal viwepoint is that people should be punished equally for cruelty to an animal as they are for a person. It is wilful, evil, pointless cruetly, and it is has also been statistically proved that people who ill-treated animals as youngstsrs almost always end up committing violent acts towards human beings too. If they are evil enough to do one, they are evil enough to do another. So I agree with you.

Yes, it affects me like that too - I cry when I read stories of cruelty - especially to poor little kittens. Nowadays, my Eduardo tends to try and get to the newspaper first and destroy any bad stories so I don't see them and get distressed. I agree they should be publicised though.

I try not to listen to stories like this one - but this was so bad that it cannot be avoided the story is everywhere (its a good and bad thing- good to let people know this will not be tolerated but bad because we don't want to give other weirdos ideas). Anyway - we have all been waiting to findd out who did this to this poor dog- and finally last night the truth came out- I had such trouble sleeping last night because I couldn't get this dogs face out of my mind- I kept tearing up everytime I thought of him...it is just so sad!!!!

It is shocking, disgusting and I just wish that someone would do EXACTLY the same thing to him and I would hope he wouldn't make either.

Definately - that guy should be put away too-- I am so sick of people treating animals this way- all they want is to be loved and people take advantage of that good nature but doing horrible things to them.

Call me sadistic in a way but the way I see it, regardless of it being an animal it should still be and eye for and eye, lets see how the man would like it if someone else did what he did to that poor creature. I would like to tie this guy up throw gasoline on him and then set him alight, that would be a punishment and it would send out a deterrant that animal cruelty IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! These stupid fines and minimal sentences do NOT SEND OUT THE RIGHT MESSAGE! Sorry rant over!

I agree with what Wolfie said.It is so sad to do that to an animal.Poeple should maybe think before they get another dog if they don think it will get along with another dog or kids.I always make sureif I was to get a dog or cat it likes kids or would get along with me my husband and the kids.I think people cna be so cruel to animals. They have feelings too just like humans.I could never hurt an animal let alone set it on fire. That is just plain out mean and nasty and cruel.Heck I couldnt even go deer hunting and shoot a deer.I think the guy should serve a longer sentence for what he did.

I agree with you I did reply to something similar yesterday and I said then that he should get the same amount of years as a Murderer does as he committed Murder As for his reasons they are so pathetic it is unbelievable There is no reason at all to do this to any Animal, if he was vicious then he should have taken the dog to the Vet

It's a horrible crime. I hope the animal rights people make sure he gets the maximum sentence.

It is sad in society that does not hold its furry citizens up for higher standards. That is a crime and should be treated as such. The jails are so full he probably won't serve all his time since his crime is not against a human. Something is indeed wrong and with alot of work we the people could change it. It is a sign of how our society works and thinks. Sad to say!

It is sad - however if he doesn't get time- the animal rights people will have plenty to say.

This sounds absolutely barbaric and downright cruel! There are plenty of organisations that would have taken the dog in - if it was a dangerous animal and had to be put to sleep there are humane ways of doing this! I hope this man does go to prison and the fact that the most he can go to jail for is 2 years is just not acceptable! xxxx

I heard about this yesterday but I didn't know why he did it. The dog was nasty to him??? Then why did the dog try to wag his tail and lick the hands of the ASPCA people. Doesn't sound like a nasty dog to me. I'm guessing that they were mean to the dog.

I don't know of this story. It is disgusting. I absolutely hate cruelty to animals. I hope his sentence can be appealed & made much longer.

I would think the man would get years in prison- I hope he isn’t let off with probation- Animal cruelty- what a joke- it’s murder- he beat the dog then burned him – premeditated also- I can’t believe someone would do this to their own pet!

I ca't either- I don't care how nasty that dog is - there is no excuse for the way he treated that poor dog...if he had such problems with this dog he should have taken him to a humane society. Sometimes I just hate people.

i agree with Wolfie. An eye for an eye. As far as i am concerned, it is even WORSE to do this to an animal than it is to do to a human being. A human being has defenses. An animal is defenseless. The man should AT LEAST get the same sentance as he would if he did this to a human being. Why is the d*mned government so opposed to animal rights? Why does the d*mned government feel that an animal life is somehow less significant than a human life? That is just disgusting to me.

I don't know - but I believe that they need to have rights- no living thing should have to endure that kind of torture!

I don't watch much TV and I must have missed this horror story. Did they adopt the dog from the pound or just purchase it outright? Because I though there was always a weeks trial period to ensure that the pet and family are satisfied before the adoption is final. Anyway, people like this make me so sick! They could have just taken the poor thing to the pound rather than for him to set it on fire! I know that the jails are full and they should come up with some other sort of punishment, like working closely supervised in an animal shelter or something. That poor dog, I am going to have to go find the story now.

Yes I agree shambuca. I think he should have to do the same amount of time if it was a human being. That poor dog was helpless. That is just terrible to do this to someone, something, etc. If he had done this to my dog, I would be in jail for killing him. I mean it. This is terrible.

This is such so sad. The poor dog..This man should have the same done to him, that way maybe others won't be so quick to do the same. 2 years is nothing and he will do it again if given the chance. It just makes my heart ache so much that anyone could do such a thing..
