Picking a favorite soccer team

I want to pick a soccer team to root for, but I don't know which one. I am American, and would like to root for an MLS team, but the LA Galaxy seems like too easy a choice. Also, my father grew up in Birkenhead, England, so I have a natural connection to Liverpool. Is there another team you would suggest? I prefer to root for teams who run their organizations in a classy manner = like the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL. I also respect teams with a history of winning because I am impressed by organizations that are consistently good at what they do. That is why I sometimes follow the NY Yankees, and have always been impressed with Manchester United. Any suggestions?

I supported Everton since 1990 when they are not so fantastic. Winning teams are easy choices so my choice was obviously NOT easy. But I think it would be more fun to develop an understanding of the game than dive in with a favourite team. One good example was a particular classmate rooting for the Blackburn with Shearer. Flash in a pan type of thing. Teams go through ups and downs, especially in football. Since you are impressed with MU, that should be easy. They might not be as winningest as before but they came through 2 decades with the same manager and a tradition. Just don't dump them when they lose.

I was born and raised in Sheffield England - now I live in Illinois so any team I support in the USA is from Illinois. Here in England I support Sheffield Wednesday but at present they have a chairman who is nothing short of being a dictator. At a news conference last week he referred to fans of the club as cretins and scum. A lady who dared to question at the last shareholders annual meeting was referred to by him calling her a venemous b**ch. The man is disgusting and a total waste of space in my opinion. He is not interested in football (Soccer) but only in what profit he can make for himself out of it.
While growing up I spent a lot of time in the Liverpool Birkenhead area - if I was going to support any team from there it would be Everton. You have a lot of choices.

If let me compare with liverpool team and MLS team, I would like Liverpool than other team. Althought I dislike football game.
