I like to use paint.net for a really good free paint replacement in windows.
I love SuSe linux, but that may go in a different discussion, but, i add it here :D
audacity is fantastic, as you said.
i also love to use the GIMP for graphics, the more the better!
Oh, also, i use avast antivirus, it's free!

Oh yeah, i have CCleaner too, it's really good, and i use it for registry cleaning too, gets the gunk out.
