This is a beautiful story I want to share.
Apparently there is a cat in a nursing home, who can sense when a patient is going to die.
He curls up beside them in their final few hours.
Oscars is so reliable, that patients families are alerted when he chooses someone to curl up next to.
Many families take solace in this.

Photo of Oscar in the nursing home is attached.

I love animals but I honestly would not really want a furry grim reaper to cuddle with me.

According the story, the people are usually unconcious, and don't even know the cat is there.

I was just reading this story and I thought about posting it. But you beat me to it.lol. Its an amazing story. I have always thought that animals know things that we don't. I had a cat once that laid down nwxt to me or anyone else who was sick. We called her the "get well kitty".

I'm sorry I took the discussion before you.
When I saw the news story, I just couldn't resist it. I love stories like this.

That's a heart warming story! They have animals that do all types of things like that! Like, dogs that can sense seziures, dogs who can "sniff out" cancer, and the like. I play roller derby, and have a different bruise or pulled muscle after almost every practice. It's funny, because my dog will lick the place where it hurts on my leg! IDK if he knows it or not, but it's uncanny!!!
I bet it's comforting to have the kitty there, and know it's your final hours. At least you know you have someone there with you.

Yes, apparently these dogs that can detect seizures & sniff out cancrer are very accurate.

there must be some kind of scent we give off when
we're sick/dying.one of my cats senses seizures, and alerts me when mom or the other cat is about to have one.oscar seems like he's even more sensitive.

Thats amazing that your cat can sense seizures in your Mum & the other cat. It gives you chance to take appropiate action. You must love this cat very much.

Jenny, thanks for putting Oscar's picture up next to your discussion. I apologize for having started a discussion on the same topic that you already started, but my search did not pull up your article and I, too, wanted everyone to be sure to hear about Oscar because he is such an amazing cat. The story we read was in the San Francisco Chronicle only today, so you did post way ahead of me. Our article described Oscar as a pretty gray and white cat, but the photo was in black and white so your color photo is much better!

I had no idea that you had started a discussion on this beautiful, nursing home cat. Don't worry about. It is not always realistic to check discussions to see if the one you want to start, has already come up. Another My Lotter responded that she was aboutto start the same discussion, & then just saw mine.
So, this story must indeed be popular.

I read that story earlier - in fact I was going to start a discussion about it too so I'm glad I saw this one first! I thought it was really sweet actually. It's like the cat is trying to comfort them in their last hours. Just as well the people are mostly unconscious though because I don't think Oscar will be a particularly welcome visitor for some!

Probably the nursing staff wouldn't allow Oscar on a persons bed,m if they were known to dislike cats.

Nursing homes are beginning to include cats and sometimes dogs for the benefit of the clients. That is a very good idea and every now and then you hear of an animal that does something wonderful. Cats in any case have been said to be part in this reality and connected to the beyond the veil. They sure can be mystic.
Thanks for sharing this and since I post from email I will view that link and see the whole story.

I heard this story today. This is fascinating. I would really be scared if the cat came and sat on my bed, I would shoo it away pretty fast. Animals have a uncanny ability to sense events though. They can sense when an earthquake or storm is coming. I also heard about a dog who can sniff out cancers on people, and they also have ones trained that can sense when a person is going to have a seizure. Amazing.

Indeed. It was really a nice story. My cat does sometimes also sleeping beside me. I am secured when she does it in my bed. Sometimes she sleeps where she's almost touching me. Either between my arms or legs or even on my tummy. I love to touch her fur and even like squeezing her nose and tail. But when I am sick, I feel I don't want to get her near because of her fur.

That was beautiful, Jenny. I personally witnessed how my dog sensed that something amiss was happening. Days before my mother passed away, our dog was reckless and crying silently. I thought she was not comfortable or feeling sick.
Our maid even thought that our dog saw some ghost lurking around the house. After my mother left us, our dog began to howl and was real sad. I can't know how they can feel it. I only know that they were gifted with this deep instinct. It's amazing.

Animals can sense a number of things and this isn't quite uncommon. Its a cute story in a morbid kinda way.
