I just responded to a post where a woman was asking for donations to help her and her two kids. This is not the first time I have encountered this here on MyLot, but I felt compelled to respond and ask her how she came to be in this situation and whether she had family that could help her. I don't think that this forum is appropriate for this kind of activity. Do you agree or disagree?

You're right worldwise1, this isn't the appropriate place to ask for "donations"--I saw the discussion you were talking about--uh, peeked at your profile and looked at the discussions you responded to...hope you don't mind.
So many of us are in similar situations, maybe not the exact one or ones, and a lot of people are scrimping by, but the vast majority of us aren't begging for money...There are so many other ways of going after some financial help, like some kind of Public Assistance, even Welfare if push comes to shove, there are just too many outlets one can turn to--I learned that when my SSI benefits were cut off in May and had only $5.71 to my name then....but I survived through a lot of tenacity on my part and problem solving in getting my benefits reinstated and in record time I might add. Right now for instance I'm really incredibly low on funds and it's at times like this I swear I want to go out with a tin cup and see if I get money..LOL --but I have learned how to stretch money, and often I'm lucky and will sell some of my crafts at times like this
Nope...I do completely agree with you...if that were the case, I think just about everyone of us would be asking for donations

You are right, pyewacket. I think these people are nothing more than scam artists who want to prey on others. They must know that this is not the ideal place to beg for money when we are trying to make money. My situation is kind of likje yours. I'm at the point where I've run low on everything. I'm sure it is hard for many of us trying to live. Most places will provide daycare for her "babies" so that she can go out and look for a job. I assume she is young and healthy enough to work if she has two babies, LOL.

I was thinking that very thing, Calais. I mean, if you're staying in a cheap motel room with 2 kids for $1 a week, you need to get out and find a legitimate job-not just do blogs on the internet. Just doesn't ring true to me.

I am pleased to say that I have not see this yet on MyLot. If these people really want money, they need to post over 5000 discussions, like I have done, and the money will come naturally. It won't be much money, but it will still help their causes. Good luck, people.

To be honest sweetheart I have never come across this and I don't feel that this is the appropriate place to look for donations! You know I hate to see anyone struggling - espescially if they have children but the internet although a wonderful place to meet people it is also a wonderful place for scammers to work anonymously! I would not go near a post like this in a hundred years and I am sorry if this woman and her kids really are struggling so badly but I am afraid I can't help! xxx

I completely agree with you on this, Mylot is certainly not a place where you can ask for donations. It is really sad how some members try to take advantage of Mylot. Frankly is makes me angry!
I too have encountered discussions like that in the past; if I am not mistaken I have come across at least four. I have reported them all!
I too am a single mom, but I don’t use Mylot to exploit me children or my life! I think it is disgusting how low some members will go for a buck!
Did you report the discussion? I hope you did, it is members like that who should be banned from Mylot….it is clear that they are here for selfish personal gain, rather than the forum itself!

No, I did not report them, Liyan, but I suppose I should have. Maybe someone else will though. It is a misuse of the forum. That defeats the whole purpose of why we are here.

I dont think this is the place to do that kind of stuff or even any place on the internet. If she did get someone to help her out then that would mean that she would have to give them her real full name and address and everything just so that someone could send her money and I dont think that I would want to do that. I agree that she needs to find a real job and not be sitting on the net looking for money.

I agree the kind of discussion that the woman post is inappropriate. The administrator must be notified to delete her discussion. Mylot is for everybody to post discussions, get connected and share information and not beg for money. If she wants to beg for money, she can go to the streets or she can post discussions and retrieve the earnings, may I know her username?

No, I don't think it's appropriate, and I doubt too many will respond, mainly because, you never know if it's someone truly in the situation, or just some scammer. There's so many of them. If it's true, naturally, I feel sorry for them, but there's no way to know if it's true or not.

i recieved a private message from someone on my friend list asking for donation to help for their schooling.I mean I never seen this person in my discussion,we never chat through message or anything and i didnt even know he was on my friend list.SO i felt this person wasnt being honest. That made me think like why should i give a donation but anyway I feel sorry for the woman if she is struggling with her two kids.I have kids of my own. There are so many scam artist out here and you just dont know who to believe.I feel this isnt the appropiate place to ask for money. There are places for that online i do believe. There are charity organizations that can help her.I wish her well if she is telling the truth but its against the guidelines and can't ask here.

I agree with you totally and I do not agree for People to ask for money like that
I am sure that she will get help if she goes to the right People like the Social or like you suggested her Family
I am always weary of People asking for money when I do not know the People

Good grief we get all kinds, no I have not seen this, I have not been very active the past couple of weeks on myLot I have been so consumed with my eBay business that I have barely had time, but please, begging for money on a site that pays you to write, she probably got alot of responses to it, I wonder if it helped her earnings to post such a discussion.

I don't think it is appropriate, but even more so, I believe it is against myLot guidelines. Besides, how could anyone help? Surely she would have to supply bank details or name and address - which are also against myLot guidelines.

I don't think this forum is appropriate for that kind of activity. I feel sorry for those who are trying to make money online and are struggling to make ends meet but I don't know whether to entirely believe those who do ask.
