If your DESIRED USERNAME is already taken, what would you do?

Typically I will just add something to it. As you can see by my username here I chose to add 1977. To not join a site simply because your first choice in usernames was taken seems a little extreme to me but I guess it takes all kinds.

If I want to join the site, I want to join the site. Period. :P I just just keep trying till I can get a name I like and is available. I know I took hours getting my first yahoo account which was crazy. :PP

I would be upset for a second, and then I would just have to think of another one, no big deal really..Its not that important anyway..

I sometimes will use a different spelling or the name with a number beside it or one of my other usernames not in use as I have a few akas hanging around the forums, it would never stop me joining a site. If I wanted to join I would join and make my name accordingly.

that is no big deal for me... if i do relly like the site and my desired username was taken i would rather change my username and join...

I have a few different users names that I use, so if one is taken I'll just try another. But it also depends on how much I want to join the site. If I really want to join then I'll alter my name if I need to - if I'm only slightly interested when I'll just go elsewhere instead.

If my desired username is taken I'll be a bit disappointed.But if the site is good to me I'll then add my birthday to it rather than choosing a different one .I use to use the same username for almost all sites because I don't want to remember all of such names.If the root name is same then it doesn't matter remembering the number prefixed to it.

First of all, my first concern is how someone would come up with the exact same name... I have never seen anyone else use it, so that would by my first concern. After that, I guess I would just go ahead and pick a new screen name that I would use. I wouldn't let that prevent me from using a site, although I would have to probably see if I could get in contact with this person using my username and find out what this person meant by it, cause I know what it means to me.

This has happened to me more than once, and I have chosen a new name. I prefer to stick with my chosen user name, but if I want to join a site and have to change my user name to do it, it isn't that big of a problem. I do occasionally forget and try to log into sites with the wrong user name though.

It never happend to me any time.Everywhere i signup with my name i will ne accepting.If i see any where the message "your name has been already taken" it is nothing but i have signed up with that site in past and have forgot it...LOL!Anyway coming to your discussion if my desired name is already taken,i dont mind i will some number like adding "1" followed by my name.I hope this works.Smiles....

I am not very attached to any of the usernames that I use. So I am sure that I would just think of a new one and go right on with business. If I make up my mind to join something because it is best for me then something like a taken username would not stop me from joining. I am glad nothing got in the way of me joining myLot. I love it here.

If my desired username is already taken, then I'll usually just find a different name. If it's a site that I don't /really/ want to join, then I may just leave, but I don't think that's ever happened before, if I get as far as the "create an account" page, I'll probably end up keeping on trying. Sometimes if the name is taken I'll add a number to it, but more often I just come up with a completely different username.

Hi friend, I always use my user name as Firumon... Till now no one have used it before me... Only in yahoo mail i can't use it as my username... Because it have already taken some one before me... But i am not afraid.. I used another one.. Because it is very much needed for me... Anyway we get alittle depression if we don't get the desired one... It is naturally occuring habit.. But we don't leave it.. According to me, if it is needed, i use any USERNAME to get it... I think its Not only by me but also every one is also like this... But in the case of your friend, i think he don't know much about MYLOT.. That is why he get not registered for this silly matter... what way you use to bring him back... By telling about mylot or by saying him to use another username... Anyway he is now get registered in this... May in future he will be star in mylot than you and me... Thats all dear friend... Besides being upset, i don't do anything. But i mostly use a username which i am using it forever and never taken before. Because it doesn't mean anything. It is the word only i know :D

I would just use whatever is unique and available.

It is common that our name is already been chosen by somebody. What is there, there is no dearth for names. Moreover, we can add year or date of birth or any other addition like number etc. Then our name becomes unique. It happened to me always and I changed my name. What the site will do if the name is already given to other person? They cannot give the same to another is it not? Then there will be confusion.
