why do people lie?

to tell a lie is a integral part of our life.why we people tell lie? is it due to the lack of confidence to face the trurh? what do u think?????????????

sometimes people make white lies to save somebody from being hurt---i see nothing wrong without it. i guess people often lie about some things because they can not cope with the consequences of telling the truth. or they lie because they thing they will manage to make the lie real soon enough (have you done your homework? yes i did---simple example).
