Well I'm new to this and it says to speek what's on your mind!so hear it goes, I think that people who are working and still recieve welfare checks should be ashamed of themselves It's our tax payers money who is looking after there children.Dont get me wrong there are people out there who cant find jobs and etc but it's the ones who do have jobs that just ruin it for the ones who cant find any.

I am not saying anything against Moms who work, and might need Food Stamps. What I am saying is the ones who work somewhere and Never report it, and live with the father of their kids, and then lie and they both work.
I have no kids, and ended up over $10,000 in debt 3 yrs. ago due to being on Medical leave due to Health issues. I could get no Help due to they said my husband made too much $$, and had others tell me I should have said I was Single. So I have been there.

Depending on how much your husband made should define how much help you could get. I mean if you were making 200,000 a year then I would say you could afford to pay your own medical bill. However if you were making 50.000 then yes I would think you should have had some help. It all depends.

even people who do work sometimes need help. People without skills rely on the government to make ends meet. They still really need the help. Is that wrong?

I am not sure there is a good answer for people not getting paid enough. When wages go up, so do prices on what you buy. Then the companies loose business and end up lay off people. That situation is worse. However, I think that people should make more than the minimum wage. Even if they do, can you really survive on it? Probably not.
Since hurricane Katinra low wage earners have gotten a HUGE increase here (from 5.15 to 9+). That is great for them, but no one else has seen a raise. So costs every where have increased due to the wage increase and people who could make ends meet plus some before are struggling. By helping the people who are stocking the shelves companies have forced people who were not in the government help line before to stand in it.

No this isn't wrong and until corporate america realizes that the person that stocks the shelves at the grocery store is as important as the ceo of Walmart. It takes many different people to make the world go round... and each has their own jobs that contribute to society.

There are many people who work and still can't put food on the table. If they qualify yes they should get it. There are people struggling to feed their families, its not their fault. There are lines of working people at food pantries, because they don't make enough money. Maybe if employers wouldn't be so cheap on paying people, then these people would be able to eat a decent meal.
Don't knock a person on welfare until you walk in their shoes. I have worked for the system and most of the people don't want to turn to the government for help, but when you have children crying themselves to sleep because they are hungry what are they surpose to do.

I agree and that was what I was asking the original poster. If someone works and still qualifies for benefits then I would say they are just as qualified to receive the benefits than someone who is not working. Also there are people that do qualify for state aid and are really trying. I only see a concern when a person is on the system for consequetive(sp) years and are popping kids out yearly to qualify for a bigger check. This is when the system is being abused. If someone gets laid off and qualifies for state aid they are not abusing the system.

I agree with you completely! It seems that many people who truly need social assistance are too embarrassed or proud to ask for help, while many people who don't need it feel absolutely no shame in having their cake and eating it too. If we had fewer people abusing the system, there would be more for those who truly need it, and perhaps greater funding to help those in need get back on their feet, though training courses, job search counselling, or even physical/mental rehab/therapy for those who would benefit from it. I don't even think I need to mention how personal taxation may be effected...

AMEN!! My thoughts exactly. I know many people who are like this, and think nothing of it. Why do they still tend to think the World owes them a living?
I know people on SSI who are the same way as well. And then when you know someone who suffers from Severe Depression, and cannot work because if it, and tries to kill themselves, and gets denied, or someone with Major Health issues gets denied, makes you wonder who is running the System, and what their Morals, beliefs and standards are.

Its a shame but untill the welfare system is reformed to get people off it rather than keep people on there is not going to be any change just my opinion

You are so right.. the government would rather have people dependent on them because they are less likely to cause a stink to the government... The thinking is why bite the hand that feeds you. So until the government figures out a way to get people off these programs and be self supportive there will be no answer.

People cheat the government everyday.... They work and get paid under the table and then collect welfare... that is cheating the government and in all liklihood they will not get caught...

I agree with you completely - those who really need it cannot get it because they don't qualify for various reasons and those that abuse the system seem to continue receiving it no matter what. I think the whole system needs to be revamped - some people are 3rd and 4th generation welfare recipients and think it is their right! They don't even make an attempt to find a job and sit at home and enjoy life while the rest of us are working to support our families.

I'm confused...You state that people that work and still receive welfare benefits should be ashamed of themselves...Do you mean people that work and do not claim they work and still collect benefits or do you mean people who work and still qualify for benefits...
