My partner is a twin. He is left handed whilst his identical twin brother is right handed. Both their parents are right handed. So therefore I don't think it is hereditary. I am not sure if anyone knows what causes it. As a teacher I am always sure to seat left handed children where they can be comfortable and make sure that they have left handed scissors as well. I think right handed is the most common and left handed is not at all as common. I am right handed.

All of my family are right handed except for one of my grandson's who is left handed. I had an uncle who was left handed and his son also but my uncle married into our side of the family. My grandson's paternal family are not left handed. It would be interesting to know for a fact if it is hereditary or not.

I am right handed,Well I don't think it is in heriditary, cause I have seen that so many peoples who are right handed but their children are lefties,or vise versa.I have read it somewhere that, the babies who are weak (I think they have some deficiency)in the begining of the pregnancy when they are in womb,it cause them to be left handed.Plus one of my aunt who is a doctor,I asked her she told me that when you put newborns alot on their right side when they are sleeping it causes them to become lefty.I don't know what the proper reason is?

Hello! I'm left handed and my parents are wondering, why? Because they and my grandparents were right handed. So I think when I was a child, it was my choice to be left handed.

Hi jonaida! I am right handed. My father is right handed too. However my mother is left handed and right handed at the same time, she used her left hand in writing just as much as she uses her right. I have 2 brothers, the other one is right handed like me and my father; but, the youngest took after our mom. I guess, it might be in the genes. :)

If it is hereditary, then the gen for right hand is dominant....
however this is theory is in conflict with the fact that twins might have both left and right handies.....
Personally, I can use both. I learned it as I could not use my right hand for some time. Now I use for heavy things the right hand and all others left.
