Have you ever thought about what you'd like to be called when you become a grandparent? I've thought about it in the past but have never really come to any conclusion. My mom was Grammy, my mother-in-law is grandmom and my ex mother-in-law is Grandmother. I'm not going to be grandparent anytime soon, that I know of, but I still thought I'd think about this decision. I've been thing about Nana and my husband being Pop-Pop, our son calls him Pop so I thought that would be appropriate. What about any of you?

Its such a decision huh? I mean, the first grandchild is usually the one that sets the names for what all the others to come will call you. My first grandchild is a girl and is almost 10 months old. The other day my daughter asked what I wanted to be called, and I said, whats wrong with Grandma? She asked about Nana. Not for me. I have a memory of a "Nana" from childhood and just don't like the name. As for my hubby, he is Papa. I think you will get called what ever comes out of the mouths of babes. My uncle was called "picky", now who knows where that one came from, but its what the first one called him and it just stuck.

Update! My daughter called me yesterday, the baby has decided that I am to be a Mam-ma. It's what she is saying so I guess it will stick. Hehehe. I like it.

I have a daughter now. My mother prefers calling her "Naynay". It is from Filipino word "Nanay" which means mother. Since my daughter is only two years old and she still can't speak straight and since she's used to hearing us calling my mother "nanay", that is how she came up with "naynay". I would prefer the same, though it won't happen yet in the near next future. I don't like to be called grandma or grammy, i think it sounds too old.

I think I would like to be called Nanna. That is tradition in my family. In my husbands family, his Mother is called Granna. Other grandparents I know are called Granny Betty.. or Granny Rosemary.. Of course, it is a long time before I will be called Nanna, I hope!! My daughter is 14 years.

Grandma or any of the other names for a grandparent. Just as long as they do not use my main name. That is not appropriate for children or younger members of your family. Pop is for a father not a grandfather. Pappy would be maybe better. I have not really thought about it since I have had a busy life and the kids are not ready for having kids themselves yet. First things first.

Pop Pop...I now have a new name for you know who :) Most grandparents are called the same thing the child started calling them when they were learning to talk. for me it was Gamma and her whole life she was called that by me. No matter what you will be called it will be with affection

I'm just going to wait and see what they come up with when they come. When my parents first became grandparents they just used the traditional "grandma and grandpa". My nephew couldn't say either of them of course and so they go shortened by him to Mama and Papa. It stuck and 14 years and 9 more grandchildren later they are still Mama and Papa, even to the older ones that can say Grandma and Grandpa.

Hello, Gapeach! This is quite interesting. You know, I never stopped to think about that. This question has never passed through my mind, you know? Actually, I'm not worried what will I be called. I don't want no specific name, anything my grandchilds choose will be ok. However, I won't tolerate insults nor anything like that. If they choose a name, I hope it is a good one. Otherwise, just Grandpa Eduardo. That's more than fine by me. But hey, I don't know if I'm going to be a grandparent one day. I hope I do, but I cannot be sure.

I am a grandma and my grandson calls me Nana. It makes it easier for him not to have two people to call grandma. I felt the same way wondering what he should call me and he calls my husband Papa. I love hearing him call me Nana, and you will too when your time comes!

Here in my country, most grandparents don't want to be called by their grandchildren as "Lolo" or "Lola" (native language for grandparents). They prefer to be called as the other parents such as "Mommy" or "Mama" or "Nanay" whatever is applicable (if they call their mother as "Mommy" then they will be called as "Mama" or "Nanay"). Maybe it have a matter with age, you know, when you are called as grandparents you seems so old or become older.

Oh I hope I don't have to think about this any time soon- I really don't want to be a grandparent when I'm in my 40's, lol. But I'm thinking when the time comes I'd want to be called Nana. That's what we called my grandmother. Grandmom is what my kids call my mom, but that sounds kind of "old" to me. lol

It's no such big deal. Normally, our grandchildren are the ones that choose how to name us, and maybe your future name will be derived from some baby babble. I myself remember to have spoken of "Oma" and "Opa", very frequent tender names for older people in German language. But although I show my six decades and rather like them, I really do not feel being "older people". So there's the alternative to be called by my name, or some nickname that expresses tenderness. I could be great grandmother by now, but I still wait to see my first grandchild. As I said, ultimately it's up to them. i There is also always the alter

My grandkids call me Nana. My oldest one started calling me that when she was 1 1/2 years old. She is now 5 and she still calls me that. I have 12 grandchildren. Six from my 2 kids and six from my husbands 3 kids. My husband is called Papa. He is all of their jungle gym because of his Santa belly.
