Candles or Liquid Potpourri

My children gave me a wonderful basket of goodies as a get well gift a couple of weeks ago. In it was a small ceramic pot with flowers and butterflies that went so well in my office! They also added a large bag of unscented tea lights and a bottle of liquid potpourri. It is Mulberry scented, which is one of my favorite smells in the entire world. I've never used liquid potpourri before now. I've always kept candles lit in my office for an added touch for guests, and myself if I told the truth! What are your thoughts. Which do you prefer, and which do you think leave the best scent in the room?

blueberry pie candle - shaped just like a blueberry cobbler straight from your oven.
Have you smelled the blueberry pie scent that home and garden has? Oh man, it has just enough spice to make it smell like a hot cobbler coming out of the oven on a cold day. Reminds me of my grandmother's house! It's an interesting shape too. Almost too pretty to burn

ball candles - A decoration of ball candles
My cousin uses insence sticks. They tend to be too strong in cases. I also have trouble with them at the house setting off a very ultra-sensative smoke alarm on my diningroom wall. So I don't use them often. There are several internet sites where you can order the liquid fairly cheap.

These days I would frebreze the items in the office before burning anything. Shy about fire these days. So both of those would be out for me. I do know that enough of those and you are breathing in particulates. Not sure about any long term affects those have. Glad you have something that you enjoy so much. Use is carefully please.

Oh I am. All of my candles sit on a pewter hotpad, to avoid the surface underneath getting hot. I lost my house to a fire several years ago, so I never leave anything burning unattended. Even though our fire wasn't started by a candle, and didn't even start in our apartment, but the one next door, we are still careful.

I am use to candles more myself although a friend of mine gave me a liquid burner and a cermic pot this past Christmas I have used it a few times it does smell pretty good. I think it depends on my mood on which one I use.

floating candles - candles in floating oil
I have found in the last few months, that if you will coordinate your scents, and burn both at the same time that it gives a very pleasant aroma. I am now burning pumpkin liquid and a spice candle in my office. It smells like pumpkin pie straight from the oven.

I like candles better than the liquid poppourri. I love to light candles around the house for the frangrence and I like to look at them. That was sweet of your children.

I always get new fragrances at holiday times. The last time I was in the dollar tree here in my town, I got candles, liquid pot-pourri (which I have discovered that i love) and a fragrance pot all in pumpkin for the fall season. Fragrance pots are cool too with their little reeds.

Ball Candles - Candles from my Christmas decorations
I love my candles. I have a glass plate, that is actually an old microwave tray that the microwave went out on. I pull it out at Christmas and put it on top of the piano and add my red and white ball candles.

I acutally love both. I am a bonified candle freak. I also love using my tart warmer. My favorite fragrances are Sweetpea, Vanilla, and Berry.

A lot of places do not allow lighted candles. I have purchased a candle warmer. I think they are the same thing as the cup warmer that was popular in the 70's. It actually seems to make the candle smell more intense, and it does not have a flame. It just melts the candle and the aroma fills the air. I also have a really neat votive holder my daughter in law picked out for me. It has eight candles. I have never lit it, but it smells wonderful in my entry space. I make old jars into candle lanterns for outside, or for citronella oil for the mosquitoes. I like liquid potpourri alright. I also like to just put water in a warmer with a drop or two of essential oils.

I used to have one of the warmers. We can't use those at work, because people would forget to turn them off. One day, it got too hot, and the candle holder broke (the glass) We have a maintence person that is good about checking for lit candles when he empties the trash at night. I've never left mine burning yet (You get a warning note if you do) Hope I never do. :)

I love Yankee candles. Those are the only kind I burn. I also love the liquid Potpori but I am picky there too. I only us yankee or the kind you get at Bath and body works. Lately I have been using alot of the "wallflowers" that are made by The white Barn Candle Co. they are available at Bath & Body works. They are electic and they make the whole room smell yummy. the refills come two to a package. I just refilled all mine today. They come in wonderful scents and are plugged into the outlet with no cords or anything. Look cute too.

Sun and sand candle - From Yankee Candles. One of my favorite scents
I will have to check them out. I worry about the ones that you plug in. I keep hearing and seeing the safety warnings where they get too hot and catch on fire. Just be careful to change out the refills. It's when those get empty that they are a danger.

They are both pretty useful. I like candles a lot and would probably say them, but I do hide potpourri in little sachets in my drawers or beneath my couch cushions. Just to get an extra but of good smelling stuff out and about the house. : )

Cinnamon toast. It is my favorite dessert. I will fix it for a midnight or bedtime snack. It's good for breakfast. but I don't like the smell of it on a candle. I don't know why because i Love the smell if it's toasting in the oven, or in a pie. I guess it's just my wierd nose or something.

Oh its great and much safer than candles...even tho i use both. I only use candles when I am going to be right there in the room with them. Anothere cool gadget is the candle warmers. melts the candles and gives of the scent without having to light the candle.

I hardly ever leave my desk during the day, unless it is to run down the stairs for a quick cup of coffee or to grab some lunch. I just prefer to stay in my office...even to eat lunch. If I do leave, I blow out the candles before I do. Safer that way :)
