mylot but I now realize I need the help of all my friends and family here. I have poison ivy so bad I do not know what to do. I have been doing landscaping for work and am allergic to the poison ivy.I was real careful not to touch it in any way but still broke out with the red itchy rash.
I have been applying the caladryl and taking benadryl. I fear the next step is the emergency room.
I have also googled for help.
does any one know of an effective home remedy for this?
I would greatly appreciate it as i have no healt insurance.
Thanks in advance

My husband just had a serious rash this past week. his eye was swollen shut! we tried all the home rememdies, benedryl, caladryl, calagel (pretty good, would recommend), baking soda (definitely use this! it started reducing the swelling immediately). finally he had to get a prescription for prednisone (a steroid) because there was no use! he only had the weekend to heal before going back to work on monday.

I don't know of any other than what you said but I did manage to find a website for you. I briefly glanced at it and it appears to have lots of ideas. I hope you find something that helps.

Everyone is allergic to poison ivy. It is very bad news.
Do you mean the poison ivy is in your yard? If yes, get rid of it.
If it is wear you work, it shouldn't be there. Who would have poison ivy at their work place.
Here are some ideas:
Removing the Poison Ivy Urushiol Oil
Your #1 priority if you ever even THINK you were touched by poison ivy is to remove all traces of urushiol oil from your skin, and get it off of anything clothing, shoes.
Here is an excellent for home cures:

I do landscaping for different people. It is not in my yard.
Also last weekend I helped clear out my grandfathers yard (he passed away in march) and his yard was very over grown. I think that is where I got it. Thanks for the link I will check it out.

Yuck..I can't mention how many times that I have suffered from poison ivy this summer. I buy an ivy wash. It is not a home remedy but you can purchase it at any pharmacy

It is a wash, it takes a few days, but it really works.
I hope this helps.

I forgot to add something. It is common to soak in an oatmeal bath, however, make sure you do not soak too long as the oil that gave you the rash (urishiol) can float to the top and reattach itself somewhere else. For those of us that cook, it makes sense. And, this has helped my brother in law immensely, go swimming in a chlorinated pool. It will help dry out the oil and relieve the itching and speeds up healing by 50%. You do need to stay in for two to three hours min., but, it will work - no doubt!

Hi! keep your head up. You've been through a lot. Anyways I checked online and saw a website that you may lookat it is http://www.home-remedies-for-you.com/remedy/Poison-Ivy.html and see if it helps.
You also said that you do not have any Health Insurance and as such would like to let you know that you can get Health Benefits (NOT INSURANCE) and save $$ on Medical, Dental, Prescription, Vision and Chiropractic, just contact me as you usually do and I will give you the link to have a look at.
You have been through a lot my friend, but keep your head up and keep the faith. Everything is going to be alright.
All the best to you and I wish you all the best in all that you do.

I've always been told to soak in Epsom salt. It helps dry out the posion ivy. Also, you can get two OTR meds. One is Calomine Lotion, this will help with the healing, and soothing the skin. The other you need is Benadryl, either pill form or liquid. This will also help with the itchness. Whatever you do, do NOT scratch those areas, as it can spread. The other you might want to look into is Neosporin, which helps heal, and minimizes the chances of scaring.
If you you should have any questions, you should call your local pharmacy, and talk to the pharmacists.
Hope you feel better soon!
