Well, i got to thinking, if society is such that only the lucky few get the finacial reward that higher education can bring, are we not causing problems by trying to formally educate everyone?

I had had quite a lot of formal education(up to the level of doctorate degree) . It has landed me in a sufficiently fair job. Though I am a retired person now, i do not regret having had to pursue education for so many years.

I think that it is important for people to get an education, whether that is through school, a trade, a job, a hobbie... something! I don't think formal education is for everyone, though. Some people do not do well with school and it just doesn't fit their lifestyle. I think it has to be a personal choice. Sure, they may not get a lucrative job and I know that a lot of places require higher education to get hired, but that doesn't mean they can't succeed. If they aren't challenging their minds at all, at least in some way, I think it's a shame because there is so much out there to learn.

I think there are degrees of education and everyone should get the basics but to really achieve financial rewards by getting a good job then it is up to each person to decide how far or high they want to go so in the education field.

It seems that on this academic level society is creating more competition for the better positions in the workplace. There seems to be an shortage of plumbers at the moment here in the OK.. 'nuff said? :-)

I can't make sure whether education is good for everyone..but for me,myself, absolutely,it is good.More education can improve me and widen my knowledge and let me understand more unknown truth. How many amusing things I haven't known about? How many legends I haven't heard of on earth? So,I look forward to learn more what I really love all my life as possible as I can.

No, I don't want to make anyone feel bad so I will leave it at that.

Educate everyone, it seems here in the US, though people appear to have more qualifications, I think the standards have gone down. I am so tired of working with people with a college education (or at least some college) that don't have the fundamentals of English down. Or people who have virtually no math skills, including basis addition. I see people every single day that are lacking the common sense needed to function in life, these are people taking college classes, who did not realize what it means when the red oil light goes on in your car. We need to start teaching good solid fundamentals to everyone.

I am a strong believer in that education isn't for everyone - a lot of my friends did not attend college or university and they are all well turned out individuals with a good job and a good salary. I am at university, and I do believe that my degree will benefit me in finding a job, but not as much as experience will do. x
