I remember doing that as a kid round my nans house on a saturday afternoon me and my sister used to fight over the bowl aswell as the spoon. I miss being a kid! Why don't you want your daughter to do it?

I use to lick the spoon when I was a kid many times and I did not ever get sick. To answer your question I let my children lick the spoon before I add the eggs after I add the eggs I don't let them lick the spoon but if they did lick the spoon without me knowing it I don't think that it will make them sick.

dear Nardz13, Kid is kid. I do not find any harm in kid licking the spoon after mixing the cake. After all kid enjoy licking the spoon after mixing the cake. I do no know why you object to this. I allow kid to lick the spoon because it is their one way of enjoyment. Why I should put a ban to their enjoyment.

Hi. Yes I know kids will be kids, I just dont let them lick the bowl or the spoon, probably because my mom didnt like us to when we were children either, and they dont push and make a big deal out of wanting to eat it as well...

My daughter is too young to want to do anything like that. However I have been guilty of licking the spoon since I was a kid and I still do. So far I haven't gotten sick from it. I understand there are raw eggs in it. But weight lifters drink raw eggs all the time and they don't get sick. As long as I'm not getting sick I think I'm ok. It may not be the healthiest thing in the world but neither is breathing polluted air that we go out in everyday.

Hi Bob. Im with you on this one... I was always told, dont you kids lick the bowl, you will get worms LOL... As to how much sense that made, I never did lick the bowl, because I couldnt stand the taste of raw cake mix... My son cant stand eggs, anyway... But my daughter will do her best to nag on for it lol... But no...Thanks for your comment...

I don't like them to if there is something made with raw eggs. It's a risk of them getting sick from it. However something like puddings, sure when I am done mixing they can have it and the bowl once I am done pouring the pudding into cups. It's all part of being a kid.

Oh my! Feelings of guilt are now popping up in my head. I used to lick the spoon and the beater after mom finished making the cake. Yes and my sons did as well, after the cake was in the oven. I guess my mother licked the spoon after her grandmother licked the cake. I guess bad habits are hard to break. Well that is way before we knew that uncooked dough is bad for you.

My mom always let us lick the spoon (or the beaters from the electric mixer) when we were kids, regardless of whether she was making cake or cookies. Everyone says that the raw eggs makes this dangerous, but I know a whole lot of people who survived with no ill effects from licking batter off of a mixing implement. I don't normally lick the spoon anymore, but I let my fiance have that treat instead. He enjoys it a lot more than I do. I would rather wait for the finished product. :)

Hey. Ive never had the urge as a kid to lick the spoon or the bowl and when I posted this topic, I certaintly wasnt thinking of all the feed back I would get about the raw egg or raw cookie dough, lol to be honest I didnt know of such a thing existing, I wonder if that was the reason for our mom not letting us lick the bowl or the spoon...
