What is Ice Cream Therapy? It is when you use ice cream in any therapeutic measure. This past Wednesday I was extremely upset to the point of my tears were a constant flow. I didn't care...puffy red eyes or not...to Braum's I went with my eldest daughter for Ice Cream Therapy. :) She then asked me if it helped. Hmmm...Maybe in between bits and sobs. But in general...it does lessen them for a short time frame because otherwise, the ice cream would melt all over you. ha ha And for those that wonder....Chocolate Therapy counts too because my ice cream is for sure going to be chocolate too! LOL Anything to help you get your mind on something else and feel better for a moment. So here is my question.... Do you use Ice Cream Therapy and if so....what for? Does it help?

Actually I think any food can be considered a comfort food when we're distraught, distressed, stressed out, bummed out or just plain feel like crap..LOL...but there's something about Ice cream especially chocolate that's really luscious, like Rocky Road-- that just plain makes one feel better...and oh, don't forget a nice gooey, decadent Devil's Food Cake...mmmmm....Chocolate has been proven to be a mood enhancer and good for depression and especially seem to help women in particular with PMS problems--s-o-o-o-o--bring on the chocolate...LOL And hey...tia...naughty girl..I thought you weren't supposed to have sweets!! I'm not either with my blood sugar problem either..but shhhh...don't tell anyone..promise? I have my fix of chocolate ice cream every night after dinner..

ha ha I'm not supposed to. But there are times that I give in here and there. And times when I am really stressed or depressed...I give in. I promise to not tell if you don't tell about me. hehehe :)

Chocolate soothes your soul. I am a firm believer of that one. It also lowers your blood pressure.

In fact, as I came across this discussion I was eating a sugar-free fudgesicle. It has only 50 calories (I had to point this out to my hubby. Infuriates me when he says something is not good for ya, how does he know!).

Someone else that uses ice cream for therapy and when it's chocolate it's doubly good and here in the UK they say that a cup of tea is therapy, but I don't drink tea and I much prefer to sit down, calm down with a lovely big bowl of ice cream, preferably Haagen Daz which is my favourite, it heals arguments and it's the sugar boost that relaxes

I'm with ya there! There is no way a cup of tea is going to help me lick my wounds. I would prefer the cup of chocolate ice cream any day! :D

Oh Tia, I love that idea. I think I have found my new treatment plan. I think it will work out nicely too. I kind of did it tonight. We took our grandson's to a church festival. It was hot, lots of people, crappy prizes, no stroller, and no gold fish booth(thats what I promised my oldest grandson). We only ended up staying for an hour. Poppy felt like we let the kids down so he decided to take them out for ice cream. I'm just not sure if it was more of a benefit to him or the kids.lol.

I may have to change my ways a little bit. The lady who runs the ice cream stand also works in my doctor's office. I'll have to buy my ice cream at the store now and take it home.lol.

If diabetic then absolutely not. Never!!! Myself I like cookie dough therapy however have not had that bad of an emotional episode in a long time. Even despite all I have gone through since April. Nothing like damaging ourselves when we feel we need to feel better. A common mistake and one that I hope did not do any harm to you with your condition.

So you gang up on me for caring about my friend Brokentia that has diabetes and I have concern and knowledge of the condition. My mother was diabetic. Could this be why I am down to 86/100. Misunderstandings and militant response? I know how much sugar depresses the immune system for hours and then when there is a condition then it could be harmful truely. Excuse me for caring about my friend Brokentia who I thought could stand for herself, since we have spoken with each other before.

When emotions rise and things are said, actions are often one. I was asking and you responded. We both want what is best for our friend and you might know her better. I felt attacked and for caring so we can let this die and we can suffer Mylot on and on the best we can.

I use ice cream as an upper. Mostly as an anti-depressant. Less these days because my life is going way better than it was. My favorite ice creams have nuts or vanilla beans or something in them. I like chocolate in most things, but not in ice cream strangely enough.

Vanilla beans? :) Today I tried the Vanilla Bean Frappuccino with a shot of Expresso in it from Starbucks. Have you tried that? It was oh so good! :D

I'm more of a Chai person. Hot Chia (spelling?) in winter and cold chia in summer. The spices and tea have a wicked kick with a creamy dairy after-taste. I love it. It's sweet spicy.

I sometimes use ice cream therapy but not very often. If I am feeling sad, that is when I will eat a lot of ice cream. It helps me feel better for a short period of time. I love ice cream so it does work for short period of time but eventually I get tired of it and will find something else to eat to help me feel better or take my mind off of something.

Oh yes...I love ice cream and Ice Cream Therapy. Though admittedly I don't use it much :) Chocolate Therapy is my choice of therapy. I use them anytime I'm down and out. For pretty much any reason. And oh yes...I believe it does help. I'm sorry you weren't feeling great and I hope that things are much better for you now :) *hugs*

a few doors away from the shop where I work is the ice cream store supreme. It tastes better than homemade. There's always a line usually half a block long just to get in. Place is so packed. tonight I soothed a panic attack with butterscotch brickle in hot butterscotch sauce. Last week it was a celebration of quitting my bad job with a vanilla and chocolate sundae topped with wet walnuts and pinallple, All my clothes shrunk. Why did I bring that dismaying fact into this lovely report? Slip of the tongue I guess.

I can't eat when I'm sad or angry. I completely lose my appetite when I'm upset, even if I'm really hungry. I actually don't like to do anything when I'm upset. If it were up to me, I'd take a couple of sleeping pills when I'm sad so I can wake up and hopefully, feel better

It does seem to help, especially after hard physical labor, such as mowing a large lawn, & yeah - shoveling snow too. After a nice, long walk with someone special, it's a great way to end the walk. This lady who I seem to have known for more than half of my life (a whole quarter of a century). it seems to work on. Either a chocolate bar or a bowl of ice cream. It's best when it's chocolate ice cream, & we were both addicted to chocolate fudge ice cream, something that I have not seen in stores for a while. It sure comes in handy when she's not happy or upset about something in helping to calm down or feel better.

I use ice-cream therapy too. I use it when I am very angry with somebody and couldn't let out what I was feeling at that time to anybody around me. It cools me down miraculously. Yeah, it does wonders to me. I believe anger is an element in our body which is formed out of fire, so if we take anything cool it would help us in reducing the hot and flaming feeling.

I know that it's really a single-girl stereotype, but when I was dating and got dumped (which happened a lot, now that I think about it), I'd always turn to the ice cream. The best comfort ice cream, in my opinion, is Haagen-Dazs' coffee heath bar crunch flavor. It's got caffeine and chocolate, and both of those give a pick-me-up.
