Music is a universal language that "talks" to us all. Rhythmic sounds tend to produce an altered state of consciousness, melodious songs can then enhance mood and then with some songs music has this healing quality. I have often composed my own music (I play piano/keyboards), to help my clients to reach beneficial states of consciousness to combat stress. :-)

I remember the famous Skakespearean line "If music be the food of love... .play on ". I would interpret in a different tone : If music be the food of life , play on !

Dear sukar794, Yes you are right. But certain Hindi songs so melodious, mullifluous, rhythmic and pleasing and they are not based on sad memories. Certain love songs so beautiful, even today I was listening to them. They were composed 35 years ago. Hindi films produced a lot, lot of meodious songs which were not based on sadness but out of happiness.

I agree that songs of different kinds speak out the thoughts of the people who are in different moods.
