i have noticed that kids dont do that anymore like we had to when we were kids. i mean use to we went outside and played and had no toys. we had rocks, sticks, pine cones, etc. now days kids have all kinds of stuff. we didnt have playstation we had dolls that didnt talk or cars with no remotes. i mean yea all those things are fun adn great but it leaves alot out too. like kids finding stuff to do. i mean do your kids really use there imagination or do they just play and let the toy do it for them. my kids arent allowed to play video games and stuff they get to play the wii when we do a wii night once every 2 weeks after they have been good but other then that they arent allowed. how about you

my children are a bit young for computer games or video games.. (they are almost 3 and 10 months) so we haven't faced this yet, although we have discussed it alot. There seems to be alot of video games catered to young children though. My youngest has play pen time, where he must play by himself, as i'm trying to encourage him to play by himself and amuse himself... he spends about 15-30 minutes in there at a time usually, the oldest has quiet time, where he plays quietly in his room by himself with some cars and trains and he is very good for at least an hour...sometimes much longer. I think it's very important for young children to discover their imaginations and be allowed to foster that. I think video games, t.v and computers if used with limitations and if one chooses the right games, shows can help, but can also hinder it.

I love your play pen time....
My youngest son had a great play pen, when he was a baby, and he loved it. We passed it on to my niece, when he got too big for it, and whenever we go to visit, he still loves to sit in it and play with himself. He is now 17 months.

My kids do get to play XBox occasionally and they watch TV at breakfast time, but other than that they are forced to use their imagination. Just yesterday, my 3 kids played for 4 hours with a big cardboard box we got from Lowes. That's the type of stuff I used to do also. We didn't have tons of toys and games, so we had to come up with things to do on our own.
I feel kids today really suffer from being allow to play video games or watch TV all day. Many times they forget how to be creative and think for themselves. As parents, we need to help our child use their imaginations by putting them in situations where they need to be creative. Give them paper and a pencil, an empty cardboard box, or send them outside with no toys. See what they come up with on their own.

I encuraged my daughter to use her imagination from the moment she could play, from about 3 months of age I think. I would put a selection of toys on the floor, & show her how to use them. Then I would leave it up to her to explore.
After that, I encouraged all sorts of free range creativity. Drawing, painting, playing outside in the sandpit, digging holes everywhere, etc.
She developed a great sense of creativity, & next year has chosen to do craft in year 10.

My son has a wonderful imagination! He can always seem to amuse himself somehow. We do let our kids play playstation and the computer, but we limit the time they are allowed too. One of my son's favorite thing to do is dig. If I ask him what he is doing, he is an army man digging for something or other. Our daughter doesn't have much of an imagination and is constantly "bored".

I htink that it is important to make the kids use their imaginations these days. I see so many kids who can't come up with anything to do if they don't have an electronic with them. My kids are in the living room right now having a "slumber party". It is just the two of them- age 10 and 16 and they are listening to a girls CD(especially for slumber parties) and they are giving each other a makeover. They will then read a story and watch a movie.
I feel sorry for kids these days as they can't seem to find ways to play anymore.

I don't have children, and I don't plan to have children either, but I do have many children in my life such as nieces, nephews, and soon-to-be-step-grandkids. I encourage all of these children to use their imaginations. One does not have to parent children to encourage imagination in future generations.
