Effects of going off oral contraceptives?

My doctor took me off my birth control pills because I'm on too many medicines, and she didn't want it to be one more thing to possibly cause interactions. That makes sense to me, but I'm really wishing she hadn't now, because I've been feeling strange ever since.
Basically I feel like I'm on my period all the time, even though I'm not actively bleeding. I've been having cramps and feeling moody, and basically I just feel "off" like I do when I'm on my period. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal to notice such things when you go off birth control? If so, how long did it last for you?

I think that's normal. I went off birth control almost 2 years ago (however i went back on it 6 months later and i'm still on it). I went off it cuz hormonal b/c doesnt work well for me-it makes me sooo emotional and just messes with my body. But, after i went off it felt like i was still on it. Like all those symptoms didn't disapear. So I went back on it cuz i figured if i'm going to fee like this anyways, i might as well be on it. However, I got a new Obgyn aroudn this time and they had me try lots of different brands of b/c. Although it's still not perfect, I've found one that works a lot better than ones in the past.
Ive also heard it can take 3 months for your body to return to normal after going on bcp's. I'd give it a little more time and I'm sure you'll be fine. Also be careful, the month after you first go off them is when youre most fertile! good luck, hope you feel better :)

Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
Oh, and thanks for the warning, I hadn't heard that you were most fertile the first month after going off them! I'll have to be very careful, as I definitely don't need to get pregnant right now!
Thanks for all your suggestions!

I've never been on BC, but my sister is. She went off them at one point and she was EVIL!!!! I swear, she was moody before, but damn. She said she had cramps, bloating, highly irregular periods, heavier flow at first, weight fluctuation, etc. I just avoided her, lol. Hers lasted for a few weeks. I don't think I could do pills or any kind of hormone introduction. Don't really have to b/c my guy's getting fixed next month...
Blessed Be

Yup, that's pretty much how I'm feeling. It's horrible! And I know I've been mean to my husband, I feel really bad about it! I hope mine goes away after a few weeks, I was worried it might be something that lasted months!
My husband and I are still discussing what we're going to do instead, since we have no idea if I'm ever going to be able to take birth control again. It all depends on what gets determined about my current illness. Supposedly it's Meniere's disease but I've had continous vertigo for a month and a half now, which is odd for Meniere's, so now I have two neurologists and two ear-nose-throat doctors on the case, and am either going to wind up with more medications or possible surgery, so we'll see what happens. If I have to take the medications forever, then we'll have to figure out what to do about birth control, since I don't need any more kids (1 is enough for me).

I did and I reckon it was a good 2 or 3 weeks before I didn't notice it anymore. But it took just as long for me to get use to them as they worked into my system. I hated those things btw, they seemed to have messed me up and triggered all sorts of wacky things in me, the biggest was anxiety attacks.

When I was a teenager and was taking them, I had all kinds of problems with them, and had to stop taking them. But I don't even remember what it was like then, because there was so much else going on in my life then.
I didn't seem to have many problems with them this time, after I had my son I was on them for over a year, and I took the low-dose kind. I would have preferred to keep taking them actually, but I'm just on too many other medicines right now to take them. I hope my problems go away within 2-3 weeks too! I'm pretty miserable right now, between the cramps and my vertigo.

To answer the pills part: yes, I had trouble when I stopped for a while. It took, let's say, a month for me to feel better, but in an other hand, after that, I really felt better, lost weight too, and got much better sensations for the, you know what...
I have hereditary cholesterol so the pill is really not indicated for me, and maybe that's why I started to feel better. I take the minimum dosage but, still I am not convince it is totally harmless for your body in the long ruen.
As for the Meyer thing, I had an episod once and I totally sympathise. I rememeber I couldn't even turn my head, I had vertigo and nausea, horrible. But I was given a shot and it went well after that. It was only minor access so I can only imagine what you're going through!
The only thing you can do is keep a diary of your symptoms so you give a maximum of information to your doctor. Sometimes, it is importnant to know when the symptoms are the strongets, if it is related to say eating or anything. Try to collect as many information as you can, even if they seems irrelevant to you. That's my father (the doctor)'s advice.

Thanks for all your advice! Glad to hear it only took you a month to get feeling better, and I hope I find good results after that like you did!
Thanks for your suggestions on the diary! I have been keeping notes, but I think perhaps I'm not being quite as organized about it as I should be. Now I feel inspired and will do better. =P

I never knew when I would start before I took the pills either, I would have two periods one month and then not have one for a month or something, and I just had them whenever, it was impossible to guess. So mine will probably go back to being that way after being off the pill. I hadn't ever heard of weight gain after quitting taking them, only during, oh yay that'll be fun. The steroids the doctors had me on for a while made me gain enough weight as it is. *cries*

I have almost been off bcp for two months now. I was a bit more moody once coming off them but am back to normal now...whatever that is, haha!
I was also a lot more tired and had a bit more cramps than usual but that's also back to normal now in the 2nd month off of them.
I'll never go back to using bcp again. I hate them! The bcp's made everything twice as bad as usual. I thought they were supposed to have the opposite effect, oh well.

oh i haven't experience that it is because i'm really afraid of taking oral contraceptives it is because i've heard lots of negative thoughts about contraceptives and basically the reason why i'm afraid of taking all of them is that cancers runs in our family and i'm afraid of taking anything that psychologically i am thinking might trigger something abnormal on me hehehe sounds strange really but because of that thought i prefer to undergo ligation after my third baby.
