Where have all the little girls gone?

It upsets me to see little girls grow up so fast. Even little girl fashion tends to be a thing of the past. Little girls clothes seemingly are adult fashions that aren't age appropriate shrunk in size. I do not approve of little girls in bikini's or mini skirts and by little girls I mean any girl inder the age of 10. I might have been angry at my mother for what I thought was her being strict but now that I am an adult I appreciate all the limitations she dealt especially the ones dealing with my clothes.
I think mother's have a responsibility to teach their daughters that they have more to offer than their body. That if you teach a little girl that it is "cute" to show skin that it is engrained in her spirit as she gets older.
I think bottom line that little girls are lacking SELF-LOVE and a sense of WORTH that they yearn for and eventually turn to men to get. It is so depressing to me.
What are your thoughts???

I agree with you. So many young girls look like hookers. It's so sad. I'm over 55 and I have trouble finding clothes appropriate for me let alone clothes appropriate for little girls. No wonder so many children are being molested! It is a shame and a disgrace when manufacturers won't make age-appropriate clothing. I hope parents let these companies know how they feel. I go to thrift shops now to buy many of my things. The parents have the control of what their youngsters wear. Let's hope they exercise that control. Thanks for the question.

I believe molestation has more to do with "power" than in the way girls or women dress.

I agree with you. I have discouraged my daughter, now 14 years, who is very attractive, from wearing brief, inappropiate clothes. I also discouraged an interest boys, at a younger age.
She didn't get her first bikinis until age 13.
All those ridiclous bratops for yuour girls, bikinis, kiddies makeup, etc. All it does it give a young girl an interest in exposing their bodies at too young an age.
They also grow up believing they need make up to be attractive.

I agree, it's so sad the message that this world is sending to the little girls. I am blessed with two little boys, but if I'm ever lucky enough to have a girl, I would seriously be tempted to take up sewing! (;
It's digressing quickly, shorts are becoming shorter and shirts skimpier. The other day at walmart, I saw a girl all dolled up with more makeup than I would expect to see on a hooker.. and she was 6 or 7 years old. I couldn't believe it.

OMG This is so true!!! I went panty shopping for my three year old daughter. She is a little, ahem, hippy for her age and has always been so. Well, I get to the undergarment department for little girls and all I see is low rise panties and trimline panties and AW hell naw panties!!! I mean, I didn't wear anything but briefs til I was grown, what is the point of all this?!? It's bad enough that these kids are growing up too fast, looking way too grown for their age on their own, now you profess to make me buy clothes that make my daughter look like a hooker?!? Not mines!!! Even though these clothes makers are just following what's popular in order to make a quick buck, its up to us as parents to instill those values in our little girls. We must instill that SELF-LOVE and that sense WORTH that most little girls are lacking. Its not only what the entertainment industry is doing, we as parents must sit down and look at what our little girls are watching, and let them know the difference between reality, and make believe.

I agree young girls do need to dress more conservatively. I am a mom to a 7 year old girl and I am finding it hard to find appropriate clothes for her to wear. For example, I went shopping for shorts for her and no lie I couldn't find any that were mid-thigh or longer! They were all short-shorts. I live in a suburban area and none of the stores had longer shorts. I checked Target, Wal-Mart, Kohl's, Kmart, etc. Now I do let my daughter wear shorter skirts (mid-thigh) to school, but only if there are shorts attached underneath. No plunging necklines either.
We need to start dressing our daughters more age appropriately. Just because their bodies may be developing earlier, doesn't mean they need to dress like teenagers or young adults.

I completely agree! The media and all the things kids see and are exposed to adds to their idea of what is acceptable. It is so sad to see young girls dressing and acting like they are grown ups. What happened to the innocence of childhood?

The age of innocense left years ago. I honestly do not see any reason why a girl, under the age of 16 needs to wear make-up, short skirts, thin or plunging shirts, heels, etc.
I'm not saying that girls need to wear petticoats and lace and such. But dang, put some clothes on!
Parents are to blame, in addition to Hollywood, the music industry, and the modeling industry. No one wants to take responsibility for what they are selling. All they care about is making a fast buck.
I can go on and on with this subject, as it can branch out into various areas - all causes of young girls looking like .... well, "loose women". It's not just sad, it's sickening.
